Run
Comments: In spite of hills which I have not trained for, run went very well and I felt really good. First and last mile was strong. Used Garmin repeatedly to watch my pace. Found myself going fater than 8:30 a few times and knew I couldn't keep that pace up so slowed down. This more controlled approach to pace really made a difference. Strong contrast to prior week 5K when I ran out of steam in the first mile due to too fast a pace for my current conditioning. What would you do differently?: Training for hills-- otherwise, nothing. Post race
Warm down: Lots of water, then banana, orange, apple, watermellon, cinnamon bread. What limited your ability to perform faster: Only the direct and indirect impact of the hills/ Event comments: Race was to honor fallen Marine, PFC Ryan Jerabek. The turnout was awesome (>1,000). Marine race contingent, presentations, family speeches, MC - John Maino, skydivers, excellent volunteers and food/drink, Eagle III helicopter, and absolutley perfect weather made this a truly memorable event. yogurt, banana, 2 ibu @ 7:30a; 2/3 Rock Star energy drink @ 8:30a; just the right combination!
Limited walk around park area prior to race. Sun was warm so very comfortable at race time.
