Swim
Comments: First 300 was straight up a MMA match. Got kicked in the head a couple of times. Took an elbow to the head and had to reseat my goggles. swim got a lot easier after the first turn buoy. I held my pacing back a lot. I wanted to safe as much energy as possible.. What would you do differently?: Swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: took my time and got myself organized. Had to apply so lube to some chaffed areas from the swim.. What would you do differently?: not much. I would rather be slow and smooth. Bike
Comments: Took my time getting into a groove and just tried to get a feel for what was going to happen with all of the large packs of riders. Had a really hard time getting into a rhythm for the first 40 or so miles but was really in no big hurry at that point. Got to special needs and both of my nutrition bottles were still frozen solid.. and this is the point where things went to hell for the rest of the day.. I took my bottles with me and hoped they would thaw out quickly.. which they did not.. So I decided to "live off the course" I have trained with Perform all year and loved it.. Perform in the bottle is a whole different animal.. I also found out that Bonk Breakers mixed with Perform will cause me to vomit explosively.. this happened around mile 80. So it was water for the rest of the ride... What would you do differently?: Not freeze my nutrition.. carry more of my own solid nutrition in case I need to use just water. Transition 2
Comments: took my time putting on my compression socks and trying to eat... What would you do differently?: not much really Run
Comments: wow, where to start.. I ran the first mile and had to stop because I was getting dizzy. I drank some water and ate some pretzels to see if that would help... so I puked again around mile 3.. So I walked and just focused on moving forward. I tried running some more at various points on the first lap but the urge to puke would come back... So I decided that this was going to be a new PR for walking a marathon. I ate some potato chips and drank some broth on the second lap and started to be able to focus again. the first lap is a blur.. Second lap I just really tried to make the best of it and enjoy the sights and sounds of the race course.. What would you do differently?: A lot. Post race
Warm down: Space blanket and chocolate milk. Did get my finisher medal from the Ladies winner which was really cool. What limited your ability to perform faster: poor decision making when it comes to nutrition.. Event comments: Even though my race was not what I feel I am capable of, I still really enjoyed the race. I met some really great racers and spectators. I will be back in 2015 to race again..
