Event comments: First time doing the Jarden Westchester Tri. All in all it was a good way to end the season - PR'd the olympic distance. On the plus side this race has quite a few good things going for it: - nice semi-protected ocean swim - about 1/2 of the bike was beautiful smooth pavement - transition was huge... plenty of space between the racks - porta-potty lines were very short - parking was a piece of cake in Playland's parking lot - Having Rev3 do the race timing was great ... instant results on the monitors when you're done. - Decent post race food (pizza, bagels, fruit) - good swag: long sleeve athletic tee, bottle, race belt, arm warmers, beanie, bag, etc. - Bike course is stupid fast and fun On the down side: - Bike course really needs more marshalls/volunteers that know to stop cars at intersections. On several occasions the volunteers were just sitting on the curb on the side of the road while cars were passing through intersections THROUGH the field of riders. Very dangerous stuff. - There was little to no officiating out on the bike. Most of the race had big packs of riders (mostly collegiate?) riding side-by-side taking up the entire lane. There was no one there trying to enforce the "ride on the right" rules, nor the drafting rules. Last updated: 2013-03-18 12:00 AM
