Total Time = 4h 48m 24s
Overall Rank = 20/718
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/72
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in dorms on campus. Good prices and decent places. Only catch was having to rearrange bunk beds to use inflatable full size air mattresses, but it was perfect for groups/families. We had 2 rented for Straubs, Hogan's, Siriannis, Johnsons, and K & I.
Event warmup:

Did an easy jog to loosen up. Mostly hung out with Jeff as it was his first half. very cool to see him experience it all for the first time. Doing races with newer people keeps the sport fun.
Swim
  • 30m 18s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. Uneventful. Good conditions, temps, sighting, etc.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
What would you do differently?:

Tried to hustle through transition.
Bike
  • 2h 41m 43s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Really pushed the bike, but didn't feel like I was crushing it. Laura came by me ~mile 40 or 45. I kept her on the horizon for the remainder of the bike and was able to reel her in on the final stretch. I passed her in the chute with a flying dismount, so she still outsplit me but at least I beat her into t2! :-)
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
What would you do differently?:

Solid t2. Knew Timmy was out ahead, so I wanted to have a chance to catch him.
Run
  • 1h 33m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Started steady. Wanted to run solid but not push too hard until mile 8 when the main climbs ended. I was hoping to average 7:00/mile, but it started to become clear how hot it was. Climbing some of the hills, there was no way to stay cool. The only consolation was that people were cracking around me. I would follow someone for 1/4 mile and then they would break and walk and I'd move onto the next person.

When I finally got to the top of the mile 8 climb and let myself go into the red, there wasn't much left in the tank. I made some time on the downhills, but it was pure survival. As much ice as possible and just get to the finish.
I was a bit disappointed in the run until I saw the other times. Apparently it was a relatively good run after all.

Post race
Warm down:

Hung out and cheered everyone in. Everyone had a great race and Jeff finished his first ever half ironman!

Event comments:

This is a great half. Definitely worth adding to the list. Especially great race for families.
