Swim
Comments: Time trial start, but by wave order, which was a little weird. 25-29 year olds started last, so there was a lot of passing people from prior waves. The turns at the first two buoys were particularly crowded. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Took a few seconds longer than expected to put on my socks. Hopefully this'll be my last T1 with running shoes, so I'll need to practice clipping, etc before my next tri. What would you do differently?: I'll be using clipless pedals for my next tri, so that'll be very different... Bike
Comments: I wasn't prepared to be riding into the wind for that long... Felt like I was barely moving going into the wind. I couldn't keep the bike in the gears that I usually ride in, so I was in a pretty low gear for the whole first half. Everything turned around at the halfway point, when we actually turned around. The wind was at our backs, I got into a high gear and got a good rhythm going. The damage was already done though, I was way more tired than I should have been from riding that distance, and I knew the run was going to be hard. Fewer people passed me on the second half, but that might have been because they were all already in front of me. What would you do differently?: Need to train more/harder. Transition 2
Comments: Easier transition since I was already wearing running shoes. Almost forgot to take my helmet off when I started running. Run
Comments: Wow, this run was brutal. I started running and my lower quads just above the knee started burning! I forced myself to run the whole first mile, during which I felt awfully slow and kinda pathetic... then I had to start run/walking for the rest of the race. It was so hot compared to the bike, and didn't feel like there was any wind or shade. I realized at about mile 3 that all hopes of a sub-50 10K were gone, but I kept running for spurts as long as I felt that I could, hoping for a decent time still. What would you do differently?: Bring my own water for the run. Find out if it's possible to stretch my quads post-bike but pre-run without losing too much time? I don't know... Post race
Warm down: Water, ice towel, beer. Watched the pros swim and go through T1 (wow). What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat? Or maybe just not being prepared? Event comments: Great race! Lots of race options for this weekend, but I'd do this race again! Last updated: 2013-04-08 12:00 AM

Clif Bar for breakfast, set up transition area.
Some light stretching. Mostly just waited around with Jenn, and watched the first few waves as they finished their swims.
