Pre-race routine:

We got up and it was thunder storming. We went to the race and ended up sitting in the car until 645. We got "delay" updates on Facebook. Finally we got into transition at 7. It was still raining. After much deliberation they postponed the start 2 hours and change the international distance to the sprint distance.
Event warmup:

No warm up. Just set up and tried to relax in the rain
Swim
  • 05m 47s
  • 450 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

450 yards is barely worth getting wet over. I don't think I was in this race mentally at the beginning. I was very mad that they did not go with a longer swim, when they changed the course due to the flooding on the bike course.

18th for me is very substandard. I can not remember the last race I was not too 5 out of the water. That was just a slow swim for me
What would you do differently?:

Try not to let the rain and shortening of the race get to me so much. But there is a reason I don't sign up for sprints.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

With I being a sprint and a time trial start there was no separation from the field. I got to bike mount and there were literally five people standing there with there bikes trying to get going.

I worked my way past them and rode with my feet on top my shoes for a little bit, until the racers thinned out a little

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 43m 59s
  • 16.7 miles
  • 22.92 mile/hr
Comments:

With it being a sprint I just wanted to push it as hard as I could. I did take the corners slower than normal, with the weather earlier
What would you do differently?:

Not much I actually was.pleased with my bike pace
Transition 2
  • 02m
What would you do differently?:

Run faster
Run
  • 22m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I have done zero speed work this year. So when I tried to push the pace because it was only 3.1 miles I really could not go much faster. I do think I could have held that pace door the 10k that was scheduled.

My family was in town and my sister was racing also, and the whole run all I could think about was how good the biscuits at red lobster were going to be, after the race

My head really was not in this run
What would you do differently?:

Speed work
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather and being thrown of mentally by the shortening of the race.

It ended up being a short intense workout day. Oh well, maybe there is next year

Event comments:

I commend the race organizers for doing what they could when the weather did what it did.

The post race food was just plain worthless. For an event that size that was very disappointing.
