Total Time = 1h 46m 30s
Overall Rank = 264/324
Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 19/25
Pre-race routine:

good have used some more sleep but I really put off going to bed the night before. Had the usual morning of breakfast. 2 slices of wheat toast with peanut butter, a banana, and some OJ.
Event warmup:

Minimal stretching-definitely should have done more. And definitely not at the point to do some running beforehand-though I see plenty of others doing it.
Swim
  • 15m 53s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was decent. I was hurting on breathing and tired way too fast. At half way point I was swimming right next to one girl in my wave for rest of way, but in exit we were both swimming crooked and she wacked my left ankle hard twice with her hand on her stroke and after second hard hit I took a breaststroke kick to come up for air and accidently got her in the chest-didn't mean to do that.
What would you do differently?:

Have to work the navigation, buoy rounding and more strokes per breath better.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Pretty quick transition, but have to not lag on putting on gloves etc-but I do have to put them on before I go out.
What would you do differently?:

Be sure to jump on as soon as possible with bike
Bike
  • 49m 10s
  • 13 miles
  • 15.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Was a good bike, but the hill climbs slowed me down. Downhills I was flying-well over 30 mph. I was good about working as low a gear as possible and staying in it. But people would go back and forth with me this way-me passing them on downhills and some flats and them then passing me on climbs.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to push harder-as much as I could wherever I could because it would make a difference. Aerobars-need I say it again. There were not as much flats here with the loop to do three times, but aerobars still may have helped. Have to get them but also train with them.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Moved in ran by people once dismounted. Took my swig of gatorade and got the sneakers on. Ran with my hat in hand-smart this time. But also ran with a bottle of water that I thought I might put in my suit's back pouch or keep in hand but it was totally throwing me off-had to dump it early.
What would you do differently?:

Should practice the getting feet out of shoes thing-though I may kill myself with that.
Run
  • 41m 25s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 11m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

It was long and it was hard. It was also very hot. I had to stop. I was struggling with my water method. Definitely stopped at sole water station.
What would you do differently?:

Have to get water remedy-small bottle in back pouch or fuel belt. Need to keep going-running and not stop, plus pick up pace. Hills didn't help. Need to train for run more.
Post race
Warm down:

No real warm-down. Lots of walking, lots of gatorade, and should have done more stretching. Why didn't I get a massage! :)

Event comments:

Great race. Well organized. Was sooooooo great doing it at Forest River, where I've been going since before I was born and my Mom swam there when I was in her belly. Loved doing this was-will always have to. Went decent-especially since I have trained or done anything basically in the two weeks since my last tri. But need to definitely pick up the training and get a few more pieces of equipment. Fourth one down already this season-crazy-but fun, fun!

Course: Bike route I used to ride all the time in high school, since Salem was my hometown and I just love Marblehead Neck. I knew pretty much what to expect hillwise...though I'd forgotten the exact hills in the Neck. One hefty hill pre-hitting the neck. Tricky loop in Marblehead that we had to loop 3 times.
