Swim
  • 35m 47s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Typical feelings throughout... the first few hundred yards were a bit congested, lots of ankle grabbing going on. But after the first turn of the triangle things settled down a bit. I felt great on the second lap.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. I was feeling quite good throughout the 2nd lap... next time try and up the stroke rate a bit and see what happens.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Work on getting wetsuit off faster. Forgot to body glide my ankles this time... might have helpd.
Bike

  • 21.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great on the bike. Didn't want to fry my legs in the last 10 mi, so I held back a little.
What would you do differently?:

Bike focus block over the winter...
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
What would you do differently?:

Try elastic shoe laces next season
Run
  • 1h 50m 47s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt great coming off the bike. Ran 7's flat for the first 2 miles, then a 7.5. Had a pee break at a construction site, but still managed just-sub-8 pace average to the first turn-around in the neighborhood at the far end of the course. Things must have slipped a bit on the second lap bringing my average pace down to 8:30's.
What would you do differently?:

More brick runs next season.

Event comments:

This was my 3rd year at the Pumpkinman triathlon festival, but only my first attempt at the Half. What a great experience. The course was beautiful, and somehow the weather held out and turned into a beautiful fall morning. Hats off to the ton of volunteers in their bright pumpkin-orange shirts out on the bike and run courses, they did an amazing job keeping the traffic at bay, and keeping us on course. Big thanks to the folks in the neighborhood section at the far end of the run loop as well ... those ice-sponges were perfect.

The post-race feast was great too. Fresh carved turkey, mashed potatoes, brownies, yum! Only downer this year would be it seemed that the exp area was much smaller (to nearly non-existant) this year.
