Swim
Comments: I train in the open water and I usually train at 1:40-1:45/100. I was planning on a 13 minute swim. I started out the swim and pushed it to get into clear water. I settled in and cruised the clockwise loop. I exited the water, looked at my watch and was dumbfounded! 16 minutes! I felt like I pushed it much harder that I usually do. I still don't know why my swim was so horrible. What would you do differently?: I was being pushed to the right prior to the first turn buoy, by another swimmer. I went with him thinking he was sighting correctly... He wasn't and I was about 10 feet to the right of our first turn buoy. I would sight on my own and left other do their own thing. Transition 1
Comments: It could have been better but I saw my buddy and said hello quickly prior to exiting T1. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. Bike
Comments: Watching Luke McKenzie during Kona 2011, he flew by people like they were standing still. I always wondered what it felt like. I experienced it today! I felt like I was flying. I started out averaging 24MPH and was just kicking it! I have a race with in a race, 4 miles left with another rider. It was fantastic! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Transition 2
Comments: My T2 time averages around 40 seconds... I'm not sure why I was at 50 seconds but I'll take it. What would you do differently?: Nothing that I can think of. Run
Comments: My wife said I was running slow... I felt like I paced myself well but could have pushed it just a little further near the end. I have a problem throwing up at the finish line (some have seen my picture on here). Overall, not bad but not my best. What would you do differently?: Kick a little harder at mile 2 Post race
Warm down: I grabbed a bottle of water and some food. I waited at the finish line for my buddy to cross. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim, who knows... Bike and run, nothing. Event comments: A lot of people say not to race within 2 weeks of a 70.3 or 140.6. I have 70.3 Boulder on August 4th but I thought if I raced, I could podium. I was shocked to see 31 guys in my age group for such a small race. I was also surprised by the talent in my age group. Last year, 1:15:00 would have got you 3rd place, this year it would have got you 12th place. Great race with amazing talent. Last updated: 2013-05-17 12:00 AM

Wake up at 4am, shower and pack the car. Went to Starbucks, grabbed coffee and some oatmeal. Drove to the race site, set up transition and socialized. Tried to keep it fairly laid back since I was planning a pretty tough race strategy.
No warm up... I put on my wetsuit and continued to socialize.
