Age Group Rank = 32/34
Pre-race routine:

Up at 0400 dressed and ate some toast and peanut butter, bottle of Gatorade and a banana. Loaded the truck and headed for the race.
Event warmup:

did not warm up other than a little bit of strecthing
Swim
  • 39m 37s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, took it easy and found some open water, just found an easy pace and tried not to push it.
What would you do differently?:

a lot more time swimming leading up to the race, only had 3 swims in the last 3 weeks
Transition 1
  • 03m 4s
Comments:

Hill climb coming out of the swim, walked the hill and took my time on the transition
What would you do differently?:

Not much really, I was not trying to break any records
Bike
  • 3h 07m 58s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.88 mile/hr
Comments:

Faster pace than I had planned, but I felt better than i thought I would
What would you do differently?:

Again, not enough training, but I knew that going in, not much I could do in that aspect due to work schedule.
Transition 2
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Cramp in the hamstring getting off the bike, walked it off going into transition, took time in transition to drink some more and try and not cramp up again.
What would you do differently?:

train to be in better shape and prevent cramping.
Run
  • 2h 24m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

went with my intended plan of run / walk as needed, first few miles i kept cramping in various places in my legs, but subsided as i progressed. The bottom of my feet hurt and i walked a lot based on that more than on tired legs.
What would you do differently?:

Run more hills
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around for a while trying to find a place to sit and keep from cramping.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training

Event comments:

Considering I did not have the time to train the way I needed, I was happy with just finishing. I did finish better than I had anticipated and overall was very happy with my results. I can't wait to see what I can do with the proper training and losing 20lbs!
It was great seeing all of the HS kids out volunteering, they were all very cheerful and encouraging, GREAT volunteers all around!
