Swim
Comments: This was one of my better swims. I also haven't swam since Prairie Man so I was not sure how I was going to do. I just pushed as hard as I could and tried not to get kicked. What would you do differently?: Not take 3 weeks off. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was pretty normal for me...slow! I noticed myself taking my time and I had to remind myself that this was a sprint and not a half! What would you do differently?: I'm going to be slow until I get new shoes and learn to ride without socks. That's my goal after Arizona. Bike
Comments: I wasn't sure how my knee was going to feel on the bike. It felt pretty good until around mile 6 or 7 and then my knee started burning. I could definitely tell I hadn't ridden in 3 weeks and I could really tell I hadn't pushed hard on the bike since Cinco Ranch! What would you do differently?: Not hurt my knee. Transition 2
Comments: Slowed down by a guy trying to rack his bike. The aisles between the racks were pretty tight. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Run
Comments: PAIN is all I can say. I was hoping I'd be able to make it a little way without hurting, but since the pain started on the bike I knew I was going to be hurting the whole time. It got so bad I had to walk about .5 mile in, but that didn't stop the pain so I figured if walking wasn't going to help the pain then I might as well run. I walked at all the water stops, but I do that anyway. My first mile was right under 10 minutes. The second mile was around 9:15 and the third mile was 9:52. I could tell that I had lost a little fitness since Prairie Man because not only was my knee hurting pretty bad but the whole run was a little tougher. What would you do differently?: Not have knee pain! Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line, got one of those ice cold towels and immediatley sat down and put that towel on my knee. My husband found me and gave me some cookies and water. We sat around waiting for them to post my results. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was pretty disappointed about the pain. I've rested for 3 weeks, I've been taken anti-inflammatories, and icing it twice a day. I was kind of hoping the pain would just be gone, but no such luck. I don't know what I'm going to do about Iron Star. I'm thinking about skipping it so that I can have a good month and a half off before I start training for Arizona. I just keep praying that this pain goes away before then. Event comments: I've never taken home any hardware from a tri. If had been able to run like I could I might've gotten third. :( After Arizona my plan is to try and become faster at the sprint distance. Last updated: 2006-06-24 12:00 AM

I did not want to get out of bed that morning. I was not looking forward to this race because I knew I was in for some pain. I've been resting my knee the last 3 weeks because of bursitis that flamed up during Prairie Man. I thought about volunteering instead, but I figured I'd be disappointed in myself if I didn't at least start the race.
Tried to jog a bit to get warm so I could stretch my hamstrings (apparently my extremely tight hamstring is what's causing my bursitis). I watched all the other waves go and then we hopped in the water for our start.
