Swim
Comments: Lined up on left side to get better angle on the wind current. Actually drafted a bit then left goggle started to leak. doh.. started to worry about losing a contact so I slowed to empty it 4 or 5 times. not sure why it leaked. but over all sighting was good and was pleased with the swim. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/322430639 What would you do differently?: better check of goggles. Transition 1
Comments: didn't run as hard as I should have but good clean transition. One of the racers next to me asked how old I was... :) Will post the garmin T1 here just for grins. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/322430639 What would you do differently?: run faster, everything else went fine. Bike
Comments: Bike was pretty unremarkable until the crash. I was pushing hard while trying to avoid potholes etc. 'I disgarded the water bottle at the last turn and remember thinking to pull back some as I was happy with the pace and started to think to the run. Then I crashed. Not really sure what happened or why… it all went so fast. I was coming back on about mile 11 of the bike leg. All I remember was hearing a girl scream from the opposite lane and then suddenly seeing her or someone’s bike in my lane. There wasn’t any time to react and I think I hit her bike the flew over my handle bars on to the deck. Right about E C St. My guess is she hit a pothole or another cyclist and the crash spilled into my lane right at the worst time as I was approaching from the other way.. I don't remember braking or even trying to steer out of the way. Just scream and picking myself up off the ground. I actually had the thought of, "ok, only 30 secs lost, get back up and keep going!". But I tried to raise my left arm up and couldn't. Then I saw the bump on my collar bone and knew it was broke and I was done for the day. Turns out the clavicle fractured in three spots and I also broke two ribs and my scapula. Had surgery to fix the clavicle. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/322430651 What would you do differently?: If I had a nickel for every time I've asked myself this question since the race. I guess it would be look ahead more, be more aware on the oncoming traffic, especially in a sprint race, Transition 2

up at 5:15, out door by 6:00, got to race at 6:30 and got 2nd from end. Power bar and water.
Advance note: I crashed about mile 11 on this race and DNF.
Started warm up a little before 7 with 10 min run from start to back down finish stretch, Then about a 15 min bike out and back, noting the pot holes. Then a swim to the first buoy and back which helped me judge wind and currents. Saw Juliet in transition for other tips.
