Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel and PB about an hour and a half before the race. Had a Gu about 15 minutes before race start.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little.
Swim
  • 12m 35s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim, and my first continuous open water race swim. I think the course was a little longer than 500m.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Had my shoes clipped in for the first time in a race. Didn't work out since I caught one of them on the pavement on the way out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Either rubber band the pedals or don't clip in the shoes.
Bike
  • 54m 4s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 19.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode the course the week before so I knew what to expect. Did really well on the hills as I passed several people on each uphill. However, I got passed back when we got to the flat.
What would you do differently?:

Continue speed after the hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Racked the bike then put on my '70's disco outfit - big afro, sequined long sleeve shirt, and gold chain. Which, by the way, only about .5% of the racers had!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a "for fun" race only.
Run
  • 32m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

The Disco clothes were freakin' hot!! Had a little difficulty because of that. I didn't drink nearly enough. It was definitely worth it, though, because most everyone who I met on the course either hi-fived me, cheered my on, or laughed. It was great!!

The only other problem was the knee issue. After the run, the "good" knee started acting up because I was giving to the bad one.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish area. No quesadillas left, so I just ate bananas and oranges.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, lack of run training b/c of the knee, and bad knees in general.

Event comments:

This was a fun race, mainly because of the reactions I got on the run course.
