Swim
Comments: Race started late due to changes in direction of T1. First and last 100 meters or so was too shallow to swim, so required run in and out. I made sure to take an inside line to stay away from traffic and find clean water. Water was much choppier than practice swim the day before. Current made navigation difficult. I feel pretty good since it was my first OWS race. What would you do differently?: I would try to be a bit more aggressive. Transition 1
Comments: T1 required a quarter mile run up a hill from the beach; since they changed the direction of the exit, it was now onto the main street to the beach. Traffic was stopped, but there were many cars and bikers mounting, so it made for a slow bike start. Bike
Comments: Bike course was pretty good. My performance seemed solid. I had trouble with my Garmin because it was stuck on OWS (instead of multi-sport), so it kept buzzing every 500 yd or so. Also, something on the front of my bike was rubbing. I might have been able to be faster if not for that. What would you do differently?: Make sure watch and bike are ready to go before race. Transition 2
Comments: Timing results are messed up and I forgot to hit lap on Garmin before T2, so I don't know actual time. It was a long uphill walk with the bike. My legs didn't want to run with the bike. The time is the same for all members of my AG, so I know it's not accurate. What would you do differently?: I just need to do more races to get used to transitions. Run
Comments: I haven't done a stand-alone 10K in a number of years, so I didn't know exactly what to expect time-wise. I couldn't drink much during the run. I do believe that it went well. They permitted a finish with family, so that was cool to do with my girls. What would you do differently?: Push the pace a bit more. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of race experience. Event comments: This was my first OWS race, so I was nervous about that. I had no idea what to expect time-wise, so I said 3 hours. When I noticed that I might be able to hit 2:40, I was too late to push for it. That and the uphill finish limited the chance for that time. The event had a lot of initial kinks and problems. 1. Getting athletes to the start on time; 2. allowing someone to park outside T1 so that the course had to be changed the morning of the race; 3. the timing was screwed up the entire race and is still somewhat screwed up; 4. no post-race food or activities nearby for family (Rev3 is supposed to be a family race); 5. most importantly, it took them over 4 hours to return bags from T1 to the finish. That's simply unacceptable. I am very happy with my performance. Last updated: 2013-06-25 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00, ate Powerbar and flat with peanut butter. Wife drove me from hotel to T2. Set up T2 and waited in long line for shuttle to T1. Set up T2 and arrived at start. Raining prior to race start, but stopped by race time.
10 minute swim warm-up to acclimate to water conditions.
