Swim
Comments: I did not like buoys on my right side, since I take a breath on the left. I got caught by weeds on my hands a few times and lost a rhythm for a while. I did not expect stones at the bottom at the exit from water. What would you do differently?: Learn to breathe on both sides. Still a lot of work on my free style technique. Check the bottom of water at entrance and exit before the race. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from water around transition area to my rack spot. Not enough room between racks. Timing mats hardly visible. I mapped out the area before the race started, so I did not have any problems finding my bike. It has been moved on the rack, disorganized and blocked my gear stuff. Too long shoe ties. What would you do differently?: Get shorter ties to my bike/running shoes. Bike
Comments: I had to stop on the second railroad crossing with other seven guys from the top of my age group. Although for me it was about 46 seconds of waiting, for others it was about two minutes. The large crowd gathered there and when we were released, too many of us tried to enter "bike in". The traffic jam really screwed not only my bike time, but T2 also. I was not prepared for such a hilly course. Despite all of the obstacles I am satisfied with the time and performance. What would you do differently?: Make sure the bike course does not have railroads crossings. For next triathlon carefully map out bike course or even maybe try it out in the week before the race. Transition 2
Comments: T2 time screwed by train and crowded "bike in". What would you do differently?: Sign up for the triathlon with well organized transition area. Carefully review race reports from recent years. Do not forget to drink some water before starting run. Run
Comments: The best part of the race despite of non-flat course. I felt good and did some friendly talk on the run with 65 age group winner. He took off downhill with about a mile to the finish line. That's fine and not bad as for me - a second time sprint triathlon participant having the overall race time only 5 minutes longer than him:) What would you do differently?: Again, better map out the course and be prepared for challenge, so I would not pump out my hart rate close to maximum. Post race
Warm down: Half a mile walk from finish line to transition area. Then riding my bike back to parking lot close to finish line. Forgot to do some stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim - need to improve free style, breathing, and open swim endurance. Bike - mapping out the course. Run - control pace and HR T1 and T2 - practice more Event comments: I liked the small city atmosphere and the location. It is good to come here for a weekend. However, I would not run here again for couple of reasons: 1/ Bad location of transition area and its organization, 2/ Railroad crossings on the bike course, 3/ Weeds in the lake. Attended the Expo on Saturday at Mariott Hotel in Waukesha. It was far away from actual race planned in Pewaukee. Picked-up race packet and went down to Pewaukee to get familiar with parking and transition areas location. I am glad I did it, because the directions given on the web page were not precise enough. Asking the local policeman helped me to decode WCTC acronym and find parking location (Waukesha County Technical College). The finish line is there (about 0.5 miles from transition area).
Bike ride from parking lot to transition area (0.5 mile) at 4:30am. Slow jog, walk, some stretching (10min). Swim warm-up (5min).
