Swim
Comments: I'm getting better! I did a lot of weaving in and around other swimmers though. What would you do differently?: Work on navigation more. Do more open water swims. Transition 1
Comments: Kept dropping things, couldn't get socks on, etc. Normal, for me. And I'm not THAT concerned about transition time. What would you do differently?: Arrive earlier to spend a little more time setting up and walking around, figuring out where all the entrances and exits were. Bike
Comments: I like biking the best! Transition 2
Comments: Pretty beat by this time, but saw my mom and boyfriend cheering me on, which gave me courage! Run
Comments: This is my weakest sport, but I think I'm getting better! Right after I got off the bike I couldn't get in a rhythm and my legs felt very heavy. But after a mile or so I got into a good rhythm and kept it! Almost no walking this time. What would you do differently?: I've been thinking about maybe taking some time to stretch between bike and run. Right after I get off the bike, my legs are very stiff and heavy. And as for finding my rhythm in the run, it worked pretty well to count 200 paces running, and then I told myself that IF I was tired after 200 paces I could walk for a minute. Also I just need to get in a mindset of enjoying running--which will also help me not to dread practicing so much! Post race
Warm down: Went to my family and got hugs, walked around a bit, and my boyfriend dumped cold water on me! So...I guess that is a warm down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just the running mentality thing. I mean, I need to face it--I'm not a runner. But then again, that kind of thinking gets me down. Event comments: Beautiful lakeside race, and great accommodations (cabins are a must!). However, there are nearly zero restaurants in Scottsboro, so post-race feasting for out-of-towners was a bit disappointing. But most importantly, this is such a beginner friendly race! So many happy, supportive people! So much fun! Last updated: 2013-07-05 12:00 AM

Eat a Picky Bar (Blueberry Vanilla = delightful) and explain to my mom the wonderful pre-race traditions (body marking!).
Wish I had gotten to transition area a tad earlier though! I only had about ten minutes there.
I took a very short dip and otherwise watched the racers ahead of me. Still not sure if I should warm up more or not...I felt OK.
