Run
Comments: Felt great out the gate and my pacing was perfect, getting a little faster each 5k until around my 19-20 then hit the wall. I continues slowly jogging and then walking for 1-2 minutes at the beginning of each mile. For the last 2 miles, I pushed when I could and had to walk a little more due to cramping in my calves. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I did better and felt better during and before the race than I did at my first marathon. The plan was working great until I hit the wall. This time the wall came when it was supposed to instead of mile 15-16 like in my first one. Post race
Warm down: Food and stretching. Came home and iced my knees and ankles and rolled out my legs, back and feet. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramping at the wall. Just need to keep pushing and training. Event comments: As always, the Houston Marathon proves that it is a world class race. With 25,000 runners between the full and half they needed lot of volunteers and staff and they delivered. The volunteers were excellent, the crowds were great and the new course rocks. I heard from many that it is extremely spectator-friendly with people able to easily get from one mile marker to the next. Last updated: 2013-07-10 12:00 AM
