  • Comments: I wouldn't give this race a 5 on the scale because I've had WAY better food after my triathlons. Other than that, everything went great.

  • Comments: As always, the Houston Marathon proves that it is a world class race. With 25,000 runners between the full and half they needed lot of volunteers and staff and they delivered. The volunteers were excellent, the crowds were great and the new course rocks. I heard from many that it is extremely spectator-friendly with people able to easily get from one mile marker to the next.

  • Comments: would give a 5 rating if they had more then 2 stinking corrals. There were too many 8:00+ pacers in the A corral that should have been back in the open corral. Stretch goal was to break 3:20, acceptable goal was to beat 3:25 so I'm pretty happy.

  • Comments: Pretty well organized race. I still get a little ticked off about the entry process and race switching. 2/3 of the participants are in the half rather than the full race, but the policy of allowing people to switch between races limits the number of people who can participate in the full. I don't think the Houston Marathon will every hit the big time with NYC, Chicago and other until they seperate the half and the full. Too bad, because the course and the time of year could really make this a world-class destination type of event.

  • Comments: This is a very well organized race and had tons of volunteers. The drink stations were very plentiful and I was able to stay well hydrated. When I finished I had trouble standing up and had to be supported while walking for a few minutes then went to the medical area to get my ankle looked at. All of the folks were very helpful.

  • Comments: Great race, amazing crowds. Couldn't really ask for more. Only a couple of nitpicks: more porta johns (like any race ever has enough), and get a finishers shirt that isn't white (how about some variety?).

  • Comments: This was an excellent event. Very well organized. The crowd support was fantastic. Even given the rain, I heard estimates of 250k spectators on the course. The predominately-flat course is fast, with the mild rollers the last 10-k adding some texture and a little test of grit late in the race. Plenty of length to water stations, and always with water at first set of tables and Gatorade and second set. This consistency and layout was very nice and flowed well. No other on-course nutrition other than occasional bananas, so carry your own GUs if you want them. I didn't try the post-race food, but heard that it was pretty good. Breakfast food, I believe - eggs, pancakes, sausage (?). Muscle Milk and chocolate milk samples. Plus Blue Bell ice cream. Expo was good. Packet pickup was quick; both large and small vendors; several decent sales on shoes and gear. Only disappointment was the limited official race merchandise - both limited types and minimal inventory.

  • Comments: Wanted to find some chocolate milk to drink for recovery. Finally found some after walking around a bit. Asked a girl at the gatorade station right after the finish line where I could find some and she looked at me like I had something growing out of my forehead.

  • Comments: It's a wonderfully organised race. Better than any marathon or tri I've done. The expo was quick and easy. The start was wide and open and had lots of potties. The mile markers were visible half a mile away and not only had clocks, but also had crews shouting times & paces. Plenty of gatorade & water. The finish area was smooth, the medal, t-shirt & food were great and the family reunion area was well marked. From start to finish, other than the running, it was just super easy... Bravo.

  • Comments: Good race. Lots of people and lots of volunteers. Post-race food is pretty poor, but isn't it at all big races?

  • Comments: A very well run event. They do a great job flowing thousands of runners through the convention center. H-E-B is the food sponsor and there's tons of foods and drinks of all varieties.

  • Comments: This is without a doubt the most well-organized and executed race that I have run. From the expo, start/finish area, parking, course, volunteers,...and the Houston fans--absolutely outstanding! If you want to see what a well-executed big event looks like, you owe it to yourself to run Houston. The race goodies are nice too (race t-shirt, finisher tech shirt, finisher medal, finisher beer mug, post race hot food, etc.).

  • Comments: Really good race organization and layout to handle such a large number of people. A very good idea to put portacans right in the start corrals. Lots of crowds on the course, great volunteers, and sponsors. Shop @ HEB! It's pretty neat to be a part of a big-city event like this. If I ever do it again, I'm going to slow down even more and really enjoy it. Why does every race have to be so hard?

  • Comments: Great martthon. BIG...lots of people. Hard to do too much with 20,000 runners.
