Comments: No split times were provided and this was the only time I got from my own watch, and it might be a little off because I really can't read my watch without reading glasses. This is a very good time for me, because my usual pace when I train in the pool is 2 to 2:30 per 100 yards. I wonder if the course was maybe a little short? Usually I am dizzy when I first get out of the water, but I tried ear plugs for the first time, and it seemed to work because I wasn't dizzy. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Rough guess on the time, including a fairly long run from beach to bike rack, and also fairly long from rack to exit. It went pretty smoothly because I wasn't dizzy. What would you do differently?: Move more quickly. Bike
Comments: I am pretty pleased with my performance on the bike. This is actually a pretty fast average speed for me. I tried to push myself the whole way. I generally passed people uphill, and got passed going downhill. At the beginning of the bike leg it was a little congested and I was cautious passing people and that slowed me down a little. Also, at the end near the entrance to the beach there was a backup of car traffic which slowed everybody down. It probably cost me a minute or two, plus about 5 people I had passed caught up to me. What would you do differently?: Be less cautious and more confident pasiing other cyclists and down hills. Transition 2
Comments: An estimate, but pretty close. A long run from dismount to rack. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My legs felt great coming off the bike. This is a good time for me; just about my 5K race pace. I felt strong throughout and even had a little bit of a kick at the end, passing a couple of guys in the last 100 yards or so. The sandy beach finish was challenging, but my legs felt strong which was a good feeling. I normally don't like a flat run, but the trails and scenery made it more interesting. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder in the first half. Post race
Warm down: Walked aroumd and drank lots of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not real fast and I should train more. Event comments: This was my third Tri, and I continue to improve. The biggest change I made was I pushed harder on the bike, but I still had plenty of gas for the run, so I feel good. This was a nice race and I had a great time. Last updated: 2006-06-30 12:00 AM

I picked this race because it started at 6:30 AM, so I would get home to family earlier. Hour and a half drive so I left my house about 4 AM to get there an hour before race time, so when I got up at 3:45 I was thinking maybe an early race wasn't such a great idea, but it turned out OK.
Protein shake with mixed berries, cream, and Elete electrolyte drops about 2 hours before race time. About a quart of water with Elete drops spread out before race time. At 4 AM it was already 73 degrees and very humid, so I knew I would need plenty of water and electrolytes.
A little bit of jogging, and then standing and waiting in wetsuit was very warm
