Swim
Comments: Considering how little I have been swimming, I am very pleased with my performance. If I could do my swim training in a lake like this I would swim much more. I hate swimming in a pool and would much rather train in a lake. This was a nice part of the park that I have never been to. Unfortunately, this beach seems to be closed for the summer, but I will have to bring the family back next year. What would you do differently?: Swim more, but I really don't like training in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: This time includes the 100 yard or so run from the beach. my first 2 Tris I was dizzy after the swim, but for the last 2 I used earplugs which seem to have prevented the dizziness. No splits were provided, but these times are from my watch. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Going down the first long steep downhill, my chain popped off when I shifted to the big ring (I have a triple)It was jammed a little, and it seemed to take forever to fix it, but it was probably only about 2 minutes. Also, I put a new bike computer on yesterday (I know, nothing new for a race, but my old one broke). I took it for a test drive, and it seemed to work fine, but during the race it worked intermittently which was kind of annoying. It was a challenging bike course, and overall I am pleased with my performance, even though I had the minor setbacks. I climbed fairly well. As usual, I passed people going uphill, and they would pass me back going downhill. What would you do differently?: Not drop a chain and have a working bike computer. Ride more, so I am more confident when I get going fast. Transition 2
Comments: This is an estimate, as no splits were provided, and I had stopped using my watch. OK, so I got to the race early so I would have my pick of a spot on the rack and get the end which I like. I get back to transition, and someone has racked there bike right on my end and over my stuff. Is this OK? It seems like bad manners to me. It took me 30 seconds or so to work my bike in, because I didn't want to take anyone else's spot. Not that there were many spots left, because I only made it back before 2 of the 10 people on our rack. I never saw the person again, but I don't think I would have said anything because I'm not sure of the etiquette. I'll have to search the forums to learn more. What would you do differently?: Have nicer neighbors on my rack? Run
Comments: Both calves were a little tight the first mile or so, which hasn't happened in a while. Probably because the bike took a little more effort than usual. Slow the first half, but I picked up the pace in the second half (from slow to not quite so slow). What would you do differently?: Not much Post race
Warm down: walked and drank water. Ate some almonds and macadamias (yummy) What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't train enough, and I'm kinda slow. Event comments: Harriman State Park is a beautiful place for a Tri plus the challenging bike course made for a very good race, and it is only about 40 minutes from my home. They have 2 races a year here, and I think I will do both next year. Last updated: 2006-07-04 12:00 AM

Protein shake with berries and cream about 2 hours before start. Water with added electrolytes (elete drops) leading up to race.
A bear (not riding a red bike) crossed the road in front of me as I was driving to the race. This was in the park about 2 miles from the race site and on the bike course.
Little bit of jogging
