Swim
Comments: This was a great all around swim for me. I was out in front of the main pack of wolves who were clawing at each other so I had a pretty nice and open swim. Since there were two male age group waves, under and over 39, I was actually 5th out of the water, and the other four were considerably further ahead so I just went at my own pace and had a great swim. On the way out of the water I felt fantastic and ready for the bike What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Transitions still need to be perfected, T1 is slow for me, but I am ok now in T2. What would you do differently?: Try to be faster!!! Bike
Comments: The first and last mile was on a dirt road which I averaged around 17 mph so the rest of the bike was around 20.7 mph which is extremely good for me. I have been biking a lot this summer and this was the race I wanted to see how my biking has been progressing and I was thrilled with the time. I was in the top half of the men for bike time (I believe this is a first for me) and I almost broke into the top 1/3!!! What would you do differently?: More biking prep!!! Transition 2
Comments: Good transition for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Surprised by the age group rank. It felt slow but usually I climb up the rankings with the run not fall further. Need to run some more I guess, but I was still happy with the overall result. I wanted to break 1:30 going into the race and I almost beat this time by 7 mins!! What would you do differently?: Run more in the heat Post race
Warm down: Ate some watermelon and walked around a bit, watched some others come in and then ate some pasta. What limited your ability to perform faster: I just need to continue improving like I have been. Event comments: Great race, only complaint is I wish the road was paved for the biking, but I guess the dirt road and the three loop trail run makes this a unique tri which is why I did it in the first place. Got up at 5 and ate two pop tarts, a banana, and some gatorade. Drove to the race site about an hour away and signed in and all that good stuff. Ate another banana and some other fruit about 20 minutes prior to the start of the race.
Ran about half of the dirt road which is the first and last mile of the bike section to see what it looked like. Then biked the same area and took a spill on some of the loose sand. The road is mostly sand that is hard packed but some areas were soft so after my tumble (I call it that because I was barely moving at around 10 mph, I decided to just fly down the dirt road to try to get through these soft areas as fast as possible during the race). Luckily everything was fine. Finally swam for about 5 minutes before the start of the race.
