Swim
Comments: Swam my regular slow pace. Out of the water in 10:15 and then had a fairly long run up to the transition area. This was an improvement over my June performance. Seemed to be more in control and kept up with most of my wave. Passed a few of the first wave and was passed by a few in 3rd wave by the end. Seems everytime I got into a freestyle rythym I would run into someone and have to start breaststroking. Some guy with a snorkel seemed to want to bounce off of me every stroke until I left him at the first turn. What would you do differently?: More freestyle, less breastroke Transition 1
Comments: Some guy was in the way and would not move, had to work around him. That probably cost me 30 sec. Was able to change without falling down or having to sit. Forgot to leave jersey unzipped in prep, must remember next time. A litte problem with wet socks, try power next time. Shoes went on fine. What would you do differently?: If I was 30 lbs lighter I would skip the shirt. Modesty prohibits that at this point. Bike
Comments: My bike computer had me at 18 mph. That is well over my training speeds and seems extremely good to me for a fat guy on a Walmart Mountain Bike. That being said I had the course at 13.9 where the official length was 13.6 so my computer might be off? Either way I was pleased with the bike segment. What would you do differently?: Get a faster bike...I think I got all that my current equipment was able to give. I was looking around after the race and developed a serious case of bike envy. Transition 2
Comments: No problems in T2, into running shoes and switch helmet for visor and out on the run. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: I ran my usual plodding pace. I did walk some but tried to keep that to a minimum. I was under a 11 min/mile pace so it was pretty much as expected. My Plantar Faciatis made itself known the whole race. My son Phillip met me about 1 mile out and ran in to the finish line with me. I think we both enjoyed that. What would you do differently?: My run is limited now by my weight. I need to lose to under 200 if not 180 and I think my run will improve dramatically. Goal over winter is to enter the spring tri season with 25-30 lbs less than today. Post race
Warm down: Water What limited your ability to perform faster: Fat and 46. Enough said? Event comments: I had a great time. My 14 year old went with me for support and now he wants to race it next year. The location and course were perfect. If only South Georgia could do something about those gnats. We stayed at the state park so and our room was 50 yards from the finish line. Got up, had a granola bar and went and got race # and stuff. Set up in transition area.
Swam out to first bouy and back. Stood around, had a gel 10 min before start.
