  • Comments: the only things i would change are (1) the start time, 7:30 or even 7:30 would be ideal because it is SO hot on the run with no shade, and (2) relays, clydesdale, athena, fast racers should start in the same wave so they are with their competition

  • Comments: Pretty good race setup. Event was well run. Awards were a little disorganized, but that may be a little tainted as the gnats and downpour didn't make it seem like things were moving fast. Good homemade sausages from the store right down the road. Quite tasty! Overall decent race.

  • Comments: I highly recommend this race. As with ALL of Jim's races, Ga Veterans Triathlon is highly organized. Lake Blackshear resorts (the race site) at Ga Veterans Park is a picturesque location. The course itself is 'scenic' in my opinion and it's as described- 'a hidded gem' in triathlon in Georgia. We will be back next year if our schedules allow us!

  • Comments: No schwag at this race. Instead, they had an awesome post-race spread. Grilled sausages from the Striplings store (conveniently located just outside the park), watermelon (complete with the Watermelon Queen), muffins, and a bunch of other stuff. The volunteers were awesome - so many smiling, friendly people. Jim could have been faster getting around to the awards ceremony, but that is my only complaint. I would not have believed it, but this race was totally do-able driving down in the morning from Roswell. It took us 3hrs travel time and we arrived in plenty of time to set-up and get ready to race, even with the kids. Still my favorite sprint race.

  • Comments: This race was great becasue of teh venue and GA Multisport. I just felt like it was a bit unorganzied after. They ran out of medals and they didnt have all of teh awards plaques. And where was the Watermelon??

  • Comments: A great intro to Triathlon. August of last year I was having spinal surgery to remove a tumor. That's why I decided on this particular race to be my first. I look forward to my next Tri (Emerald Point?) and to coming back next year to Lake Blackshear with the wife and kids.

  • Comments: This is a great race - low key, beginner friendly, great course. Well-run race, as usual. The swim was a little more crowded than ideal, but there was talk about moving the location a little next to address this issue. I hope they don't move much, though, because I really enjoy this race!

  • Comments: Good race overall. Normal Jim Rainey race. Well organized, pretty much on time, just a little slow pulling it together at the end. Awards took FOREVER! I guess I can't complain since I was actually there for the awards for once. :) I was a little disappointed that not all of the finisher medals were the same. Looked like some of the folks received medals with a swimmer, biker, and runner whereas others only had a biker. Sort of odd, but he did promise to mail folks medals if they didn't receive one.

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race......again. It was my 3rd time participating in the event. It is amazing to see how much this race has grown. Unless I missed it,though, there was not a "goody bag" this year. Not sure if there is was a photographer on course this year. Oh well, still a fun event.

  • Comments: I like this course, minus the gnats! I will probably do this again next year. It was pretty cool seeing a father/son (just a guess) duo compete as one. They were kind of like Team Hoyt.

  • Comments: I love this race. This was Doug's first race and my second last year. The park is beautiful and Doug's folks can bring their RV. There is lots of neat stuff to do in the park so we can bring the girls. No beef jerky in the goody bag this year, but we will stop to get some on the way home. We will definitely do this race again.

  • Comments: I liked this course overall and it seemed pretty well organized. The local folks were nice and Cordele was generally better than I expected for a Interstate-based town. I didn't see a photographer and doubt there was one there. I would've liked that. I heard the awards took too long again. On the whole, a very positive experience which was only tainted by my inexperience. Ill put data in when I get it.

We stayed at the Lake Blackshear Resort (about the same price as a hotel) and it was great to be able to return to our room to get stuff, use the bathroom, etc. We would definitely return with our kids again because there were plenty of outdoor things to do at this state park.
