Pre-race routine:

up at 4 am. 2 cups of joe and a PB Bagel for the ride.
1 hour 45 minute ride - definately didn't need a hotel
Event warmup:

200 hundred yard swim. Met and hung w/ Dan (Marvarnett) He looks fast standing still!

My poor sighting and worse eyesight finally caught up w/ me. We started off going directly into the sun. They used a boat ramp, some waded I didn't want to use the enegy so I stood at shoulder height water. Maybe I shuda went w/ those guys. Breathing was good at the start. bc of the stagggered start the field spread out quickly and I settled in. The sun made sighting difficult but I had people on either side of me so I thot I was o.k. WRONG!. By the time we stopped we realized we were in the middle of the rectangle. Bouys were to be on our right. A guy w/ me pointed to buoy back about 200 yards. I thot it was a turn buoy and proceeded to go back to it. Getting there, I realized it was a guide buoy and I technically didn't need to have it on my right. the good news is it put me on line. the bad news, besides the time lost time, was that all the treading water caused my right foot to cramp. bascially had to swim one legged till it passed. Finally made the turn, sun at my back and with my new bilateral working well REALLY concentrated on sighting. Unfortunately my left foot cramped.It also seemed like a long swim, which Dan agreed. After all that I came out feeling good, slow, but good physically. Mentally disappointed.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better, altho the sun was huge factor. The last 2/3 I was much better.

Had some trouble getting my right foot in. Velcro strap actually came out. Getting back thru the loop was a bitch. Gotta practice more than just the night before.

Closed road, no traffic that was nice. 2 loops of rolling hills , no major climbs (right Dan?).

Actually a little disappointed in in my time given the course. Took me too long to get over that lousy swim. Felt like I went hard, the results just weren't there. My rear rim isn't true and may have been a factor. Replacing b4 TM.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new rim b4 the race. Really I don't know. This may be it for me. I pushed hard. maybe just more T.I.T.S is needed.

Just couldn't get comfortable out there. I'm training much faster than this. Can't really blame the heat as most of the run was in the shade and it was flat. I dunno, just not my day on the run. bc of the swim I knew I wasn't gonna have a great overall time and think I kinda gave it to that instead of pushing. I shuda pushed harder. Easy to say now, but I just wasn't feeling itout there.
What would you do differently?:

Forget about time and push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled off in the athlete tent. good grub and cold drinks. Hung w/ Dan and his wife and wathed him get his AG medal (2nd palce)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

getting lost in the water and the heat

Event comments:

Meeting Dan and his wife was great. He is as nice as he is fast. the sky is the limit for him. I expect BT will see big things from in the not to distant future. I was also really impressed w/ this RD and venue. Only it's second year and first at Lake Nokamixon. What a venue, beautiful lake, closed roads for the bike and a flat scenic, shaded run. Well orgnaized too. My only knock is they didn't have as much water as advertised and cuda used it given the heat. Definately recommned it and I will go back.

Overall a good training day, not necessarily a great race day. Nontheless, I had fun, learned a lot about myself and met another BT'r (that's always nice). An eye opener and good final tune up for Timberman. I've still got work to do.
