Swim
Comments: This was a big surprise for me it was much more difficult than I anticipated. Despite all the posts and race reports I have read I was not ready to the contact of the swim I was never able to get into a rhythm and the murkiness of the water prevented me from seeing if I was swimming up on some one so at the first buoy I just decided to swim and not even try to pass anyone. I started off to the left and outside but quickly form my self inside in line with the buoys making the turns right on the buoy. Having never swam with a swim cap was a misstate it was a bit distracting. Waved to my wife and Kids they had SIGNS :) What would you do differently?: Swim with a swim cap. Transition 1
Comments: T-1 was good a bit slower than I wanted but I took my time and did not run fat to the transition area I did not want to sep in a rock or bottle cap and hurt my foot also took time to drink. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Waved to Wife and kids again and began the ride first dam hill was no problem but I had a slow speed on the dam 14 to 15 I picked it up a bit on the bulk of the ride but not enough was passed by about 70 or more people and managed to pass 2. Drinking was good went thru 24 oz water and about 20 oz of weak Gatorade not stomach problems. I put 2 gels tucked in my shorts legs one fell out on the run with bike it is a good idea if the legs are dry but not wet. So had one GU for the ride ate it just before the turn around. Good return ride just not fast enough did manage to hit 35.5 on the down side of the Dam hill. As I approached the Dam hill accent with the 180 degree turn I decided to stand up and power my way up as I was not going to unclip and walk. I made it but really paid a heavy price breathing was maxed out and legs all used up the mile from there to transition was slow and again got to wave at family. What would you do differently?: More hard rides Transition 2
Comments: did not do a agressive dismount but did not stop either What would you do differently?: Trust my legs Run
Comments: This was the big weak point up to this point I had a chance of making my 1:50 goal but just did not have the gas for the run. I knew at the start my legs would not take me the entire trip running so I ran fast and walked fast. Talked to a few other runners that were running with out stopping and paced my runs and walks off them passed them with ½ to ¼ mile to go and congratulated them at the end. Special thanks to all you BTers for the encouragement and to my Family for their support. What would you do differently?: I need longer runs to build endurance Post race
Warm down: nope just stopped got a water and waited to congratulate to two I paced off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack or running endurance and poor bike speed. Event comments: Good race I met most of my goals I did not drown or fall off the bike, I did not come in last, but missed my 1:50 goal. I knew the 1:50 would be hard to reach I am satisfied with my performance I could not have done better in my current physical condition. Overall time was 1:58 by chip timing seems a bit off by my timing but I may have messed my timing up a bit. Ill add the remainder of information when the results are posted.
