Swim
Comments: The wade start was easy. I like wade starts as compared to beach/running starts. I breath to the left and breathed every second stroke. I used the pack as reference and didn't sight for the first 100 meters or so. Made it to the first turn bouy easily and looked for some feet to draft. I found some and continued to swim. I sighted, saw Ironhead on the jersey in front of me and realized I was on Aaron's feet! Thanks, Aaron. Continued swimming along without any real problems. I did go off course occassionally, but not by much. About half way through the swim some green caps from the wave behind me showed up. That's always discouraging. Overall the swim was pretty uneventful. It was an average swim. Probably should have swam harder. What would you do differently?: Swim harder. Try bilateral breathing, that may straighten out my navigation. Transition 1
Comments: Put on socks and shoes. Headed out to the bike course. What would you do differently?: Not much. Unless I'm going to practice the shoes on the bike thing. Bike
Comments: Overall it was a comfortable ride. Maybe too comfortable. My average speed wasn't where I wanted it. 21+ mph would have been acceptable. But, considering that I didn't plan to do this race until last week, didn't taper at all for this race and that I did my scheduled training on Saturday, I guess this was a good ride. I did notice that I lost focus, let my mind wander and lost intensity a couple of times. During these times my speed and HR would drop. What would you do differently?: Not much. This was a 'C' race and just for fun. And it was fun. The bike course was fast. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of the shoes and ran to the rack. Fast transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The run was hot. But, the running I have been doing after work has paid off. I didn't really mind the heat. Kept pouring water on my head to keep cool. The run went out onto the dam. On this part of the course I saw most of the BT'ers. High fived Aaron. They all looked good. Overall this was a good run for me. I got into the run easily right out of T2. Tried to negative split the run; which I sort of did, except for mile 4 climbing up onto the dam. I just concentrated on slowly raising my HR to LTHR by mile 4 and after that kept it just below LTHR. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank gatorade, ate cookies and talked to David, Sebastian, and Shannon. Waited for the other BT'ers to come in. I felt fine after this race and recovered pretty easily. What limited your ability to perform faster: No taper and no race specific training. My training has been focused on HIM and IM races. I started IMFL training the second week of July. I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to race so close to home. And to preview the course for Prarie Man. Event comments: This was a well organized event. I enjoyed the race and will do it again next year. It's always great to see the other BT'ers and hang out after the race. Last updated: 2006-07-12 12:00 AM

The usual. Showered. Coffee. Took breakfast with me in the car - oj, Cliff bar, bannana. Also brought a bottle of Gatorade. Sipped on this while setting up transition. Took an electrolyte tablet after setting up transition. Met up with the other BT'ers - Aaron, Haley, David, Andy, Shannon, Emily. Sebastian was there spectating and picture taking.
Swam a couple hundred meters for a warm up. Then the pre-race meeting started. Ate a Gu during the meeting.
