Pre-race routine:

small coffee, propel fitness water, 2 granola bars. Delay broom until very last moment to dsitract from race nerves.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 17m 5s
  • 805 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt awesome! Started to the front, right side. Good given most swimmers drifted to the left side of the course. Nice calm swim. Exit is steep
Transition 1
  • 02m 58s
Comments:

Good trans; made a "pit stop"
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 41m 32s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Hugh headwind that never went away. Performance excellent until mile 7 when going downhill at 28mph decided to kick it into a higher gear; was stuck in that gear the rest of race, forcing me to stand on hills. Legs were cashed at the end. Drank 3/4 bottle of water/gatorade mix. Outside of that, shifting was good, speed did not scare me, and had a lot of fun!
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Shift better. Not listen to the spectators.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Quick in/out. Short distance to bike out, so no problem speed walking in bike shoes
Run
  • 30m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

SUCKED!!! My legs were cashed from the bike and began cramping right as I exited the run out. I "shuffled" best I could and tried to drink water. This is not typical pace for me, but considering my swim was 4 minutes faster than average, and I have been averaging 15mph on flat bike routes, I can see why I was struggling. Positives: I did not walk. I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Not push myself to the last iota on the bike. Drink more--find a better water/stuff mix. After race, I was dehydrated and border-line hyperventalating. Orange juice finally leveled me out; gatorade was like drinking a salt shaker.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked about 1 mile. Drank orange juice, 1 bottle of water. Biked 7 miles back to the parking lot. Massage 3 days prior (Thurs)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration.

Event comments:

I could not find water or food at the race finish.
