Swim
Comments: The first 200 yards was shallow enough that most everyone walked/waded out until it was above waist deep. Those that walked were mostly keeping pace with those that were swimming for the first 200 yards. The high winds caused some major swells that was like swimming in the ocean. It pushed people into each other and made finding a rhythm difficult. I caught a lot of people from previous waves which made navigating more difficult. This was the most I've been hit/ran into during a triathlon. What would you do differently?: I guess I could have gone out a little farther to get away from some of the congestion, but didn't want to add any further distance since I'm no swim phenom. Transition 1
Comments: I took a little longer than normal at T1 so I could get socks and shoes on. Still need to work on getting wetsuit off faster over heels. I made sure not to forget anything. What would you do differently?: run a little faster and get wetsuit off faster. Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike. Wasn't sure how hard to go when the wind was in my face, but felt I was at a comfortable pace. When the wind was at my back, I let it rip. Made sure of corners with the wet roads and gave most bikers extra room when I passed. I was happy that nobody passed me during the ride. I did get a silly drafting penalty for coming up on a rider and then backing out instead of passing them. Lesson learned. What would you do differently?: Not much(except for that penalty). With a headwind for the first several miles, I wanted to go out at a good, but comfortable pace so I would not overcook my legs. I felt great coming off the bike, so mission accomplished. Transition 2
Comments: My feet were soaked from the rain during the ride, so I made sure to put on dry socks for the run. Took a few extra seconds to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind for the run. What would you do differently?: hurry up more. Run
Comments: Started off a little quick when I saw my watch said 6:45 pace. I dialed it back to a 7:05-7:10 pace to make sure I had something for the later miles. Overall, I'm thrilled with my run time as my best open half was only 3 minutes faster. I guess all of those Wednesday night sneaky speed runs with Josh Beck paid off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Ate a few pieces of watermelon and sat down for a few minutes to recover. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather. Event comments: The number of volunteers this race has is outstanding. Plenty on the bike and especially run course. My only complaint would be that I think they can come up with a better run course. There are 3 sections that I would like to see changed for that. Last updated: 2014-03-31 12:00 AM

Drove up from Ithaca and arrived at transition around 6 a.m. Dropped my gear off at my rack number and got in the porta potty line to get that out of the way. Because of the wait for potty's, I had to hurry a little to get everything set up and also covered in case of rain. Finished up right at transition close time.
Didn't do much for warm up as I was in the last wave, so I watched and waited. I did swim about 25 yards to make sure my goggles didn't leak and get some water in my suit.
