Swim
Comments: While walking to the swim start, I noticed my hands were turning purple and my arms were doing like Randy's did in Christmas Story due to my wetsuit. Apparently over the course of the past year I've gained a bit of mass in my shoulders and arms and my wetsuit didn't fit me any longer. It was way too tight and I couldn't breathe well, move my shoulders, or feel my hands too well. About 150 yards into the swim, I swam to the bank, stripped the wetsuit, then finished the swim in just my tri-kit. But at that point my shoulders were blown out so I wasn't setting any records. Frustration set in which didn't help much, but I pushed on to finish. What would you do differently?: Swim in my wetsuit before the race, find out it doesn't fit, and get a new suit. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was quick since my wetsuit didn't finish the swim with me. All I had to do was run to my bike, put on my helmet, and run out since my shoes were clipped to the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I'm not the strongest cyclist, but I'm OK. Course was rough in a couple spots and there were fairly strong NE winds that were disruptive over the entire course. Overall it wasn't a bad ride considering everything. What would you do differently?: Need to put in more time on the trainer. I haven't been doing a ton of cycling so I'm not where I'd like to be. All in all, it wasn't a bad ride per my abilities. My abilities just aren't where I'd like them to be. Transition 2
Comments: This went smoothly. I take a few extra seconds in T2 because I run with a knee supporter and it takes a couple seconds to put on. Overall the transition was smooth. What would you do differently?: Maybe run without socks to pick up a few seconds.. not sure. Run
Comments: This was my strongest 5K effort in a long time. I went out of T2 faster than I would have liked, reeled myself back in before the .5 mile mark, then pushed my pace back to where I wanted it to be. I was able to carry a strong pace through the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Drank some water, then a bowl of jambalaya and a beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wetsuit issues and a lack of swim ability. Event comments: Great small race, and my first podium finish. Without the swim issues I would have been thrilled. Still happy with 2/3rds of my race though. Last updated: 2014-04-07 12:00 AM

Ate a Clif Bar, set up transition, wandered around to loosen up.
Walked to swim start, swam about 10 minutes to get acclimated to the water.
