Pre-race routine:

We got out there on a shuttle. Trevor decided to stay back at T2 and wait there so this was my first time starting out alone.

Got the tires filled and nutrition set up. Watched the pros begin. Stuffed myself into my wetsuit as best as I could... and before I knew it it was my turn!
Event warmup:

We did get 3mins in the water to get used to the cold water and get out to the buoys as this was a deep water start. I did the best I could with the limited time we had.
Swim
  • 40m 40s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have never been a strong swimmer and the lack of open water practise this year showed!
Sighting was off but I just kept swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

This was a long run.

Took my time and kept my cool... was advised to get out of the water as unfrazzled as possible.
Bike
  • 2h 55m 55s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow! I love and hate this course at the same time.
This was a good one... would usually be very unhappy with this time but given the lack of road training (still all indoors here) and the hills on this course I will call it a good start and keep working at chipping away at this this season.
What would you do differently?:

Need to become better at the technical aspects of racing... my inability to mount, dismount, corner and descend well showed here.
Transition 2
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

Ran past my bag and had to double back... I did make a point of stopping for sunscreen on the way out... well worth my while seeing as how this pale Canadian girl was cooking!
Run
  • 1h 50m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

More hills!
I went out way too slow and cautious. The heat and hills had me concerned but I should have hit this harder. I am capable of much more than this and finished feeling way too good.
I did do a good job of staying cool and hydrated. No complaints there.

The views were amazing... the course was amazing... the crowd support was fantastic.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first race of the season and seeing as how there is snow on the ground still at home 95% of the training has been indoors.

Event comments:

This race is phenomenal... the scenery, the people, the whole thing... amazing!
