  • Comments: The race itself is amazing. I don't think the course is too hard for me...the conditions were just really tough, plus my nutrition was a disaster.

  • Comments: St George is an amazing venue. It is a tough course for sure, one of the toughest halfs in North America. The town of St George really pulls out all the stops to make this a top tier event. With 2,600 volunteers and the entire town rallying to cheer you on, you can't beat it. With some of the most stunning scenery you will experience and lots of outside opportunities to visit Zion and Bryce national parks, its just really one of the best events I have been to. Will be returning next year for sure.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: I beat last year's time by 8 minutes, which will probably stand as my course PR. If I do a HIM next season, I will l likely choose a new venue. I've seen St. George cool and wet, and now warm and windy. I'm not sure I want to find out what other weather it can throw at me This year I did try harder to look up and enjoy the scenery on the bike and run. It's a strikingly beautiful area. If I do return for another go at the course, I will book a longer stay and see more of the sites in this spectacular area. Also, the volunteers at this race are the best. The race seems to have tremendous community support, which makes it a lot of fun as a participant.

  • Comments: Ironman puts on a really great race. St George was a very neat town, and the community seemed to largely support this event, which was really appreciated -- people out in front of their homes cheering us on at many points of the race. Thank you St. George !! The course is very challenging. This was my first crack at it. I'm not sure if I will be back right away, but hopefully again at some point. This was as challenging a course as I would really ever want to face. From older race reports and conversations I had with other athletes, it sounds like this location can hit you with tough weather pretty much every year, be it high heat, winds, or cold rain. For accommodations, I was happy with the Quality Inn South Bluff. Room was really inexpensive, quiet and reasonably comfortable for the price, and those guys put a full breakfast out there by 3:30AM for Ironman participants. How cool is that?

  • Comments: NO CHOCOLATE MILK OR ICE CREAM AFTER THE RACE!! Also no Finisher jersey. Combine that with the really crappy backpacks! Ironman seems to be making more and more money but getting cheaper and cheaper on the swag! I did really like the finisher medal. That was cool.

  • Comments: Volunteers and crowd support were amazing! WTC always puts on a good race and manages to find great support. Their post-race activities are always lacking though....oh well. This course is amazing. Beautiful, challenging, and so rewarding!

  • Comments: Overall, I was 8 minutes faster than last year, but 1 miunte slower in the run. Good event with bad results. I was looking for a WC Canada slot... but even if I would have maintained position at 9th after T2.. I still wouldn't have gotten a slot. A 4:52 last year would have gotten 9th place and a slot (like 3 more slots available)... but this year, I would have had to go under 4:35... which at my best I don't think that I would have been able to do. I was aiming for around a 4:38 to 4:40. ALL of the top 10 guys ran under 1:35... with the top 3 all under 1:30... f$%k me! The only consolation that I have is that there is a time delta of about 20 to 25 minutes from this course to the local Tempe Town Lake course... so even with a meltdown... I would have been about or slightly under 4:30... that would be a PR.

  • Comments: One thing I really was smart about was hydration. Starting a week out from race time I added 8 oz of plain Pedialyte to every 24 Oz I drank, averaging about 80 oz a day. I did that right up through race morning. I had zero cramping issues, never felt dehydrated and woke up Sunday morning feeling great--I am not sore at all. Definitely my plan for my future races!

  • Comments: Can't say a bad word about the inaugural St.George 70.3 - really well organized, great town for a race, beautiful course, challenging, great support, and the weather was just about perfect. Would recommend this race to anyone who is up for a challenging 70.3.

  • Comments: It's funny, this race report is really very positive considering I am still dissapointed with my result a bit. I haven't finsihed 4th at a non-championship WTC race since IMNAZ 2007. But I have been able to maintain my streak World Championship qualifying at every race I have done and I am very proud of that. Vegas 2013 with the goal of getting back onto the AG podium. Game on! Oh, and if I blow it, I blame Jensen... :)

  • Comments: I was going for a Vegas slot... there were 7 spots... I came up short... but I thought that I would be depressed about it... I'm not depressed,a little dissappointment, BUT I also know that I gave it my all and didn't back down from the rough patches. Overall, this was a good race, I had 2 rough patches on the extreme grades. I know that if I would have performed a little bit hard on those rough patches... perhaps I could have found up to 5 minutes, but.... I know the course and next time I know I can go harder and hopefully will be better trained and can find do about 10 minutes better. BTW, thanks to all the volunteers!!! Congrats to my fellow Arizonans who qualified for Vegas, I'm happy for you all. Thanks to coach Mike Ricci @ D3 for helping me get there
