Pre-race routine:

Woke up and got there early so that i could register and set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

Stretched and got in the lake to swim for a few minutes

no split times at this event either. First open water swim, so that was an experience. Not sure how i feel about the open water swim thing. Definately would have been faster in a pool.
What would you do differently?:

practice swimming straight, navigating bouy, lifting head out of water.

a little slower than i would have liked, but overall pretty good. The transition area was in a picnic pavilion, so it was very croweded. Duathlon and triathlon particpants all in the same area.
What would you do differently?:

just practice practice practice will make it better

Immediately onto the bike and out of the parking lot the course goes up a pretty good, steep hill. If you aren't in a low gear already your screwed cause you are already on the hill. Yeah well i tried to shift anyway, dropped my chain, fell on the pavement (knee first), cut my leg pretty badly, and almost got run over by the pack of bikers behind me.Had to finish the bike and ride with blood running down my leg. I got u[ and continued on only to drop my chain again on the next to hills, even though i shifted before i was on the hill. For the rest of the very challenging course, full of rolling hills, i had to stay in harder gears for fear of my chain falling off again. Threfore i was hardly moving at all going up some of the hills. I lost sooo much time, having to stop and put my chain on three times didn't help either. Besides the mechanical issues i hadn't trained enough on hills and wasn't physically ready for the course.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more hills. practice shifting, and get bike looked at to make sure all is in working order.

Considering i was just praying for the bike course to end, the run felt pretty good. Flat course. I think my pace was pretty good even though i am not sure what it was.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pushed a little bit harder.

Warm down:

Parents came to watch since they live in the area. Chatted with them and took a few pictures, which i will post to the website when i get them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I haven't been taking care of myself as i should lately. Need to get back on a regular schedule of sleep, good eating, and training. Have to take care of my body if i want it to perform well.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the race, and the volunteers were great. I wasn't able to stay around for the results. They only announced them and didn't print out the results at the race site. And they still haven't posted them online nearly a week later, so i only have a vague idea of how i did. Despite my sucky bike leg its possible that i placed in my age group and i would really like to know.
