Pre-race routine:

Caught a cab this year, this report going from memory logging it 7 months later. Ate bananna, powerade etc.
Event warmup:

Mellowed out like usual, got into water about 5 min early and went to front.
Swim
  • 1h 32m 2s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, what can I say. Started front middle left. I did this after surveying the course to find the most ditect line. I think it worked out better than last year being against the wall. Started at the front and I know some people won't agree with it, it resulted in much better swim. I didn't run into the backs of anyone really, maybe a couple at start, and didn't really have anyone swim over me.
What would you do differently?:

A good swim for the time invested, 4 min faster than last year, though I think it's due to course vaigation
Transition 1
  • 08m 47s
Comments:

Slow, slow, slow. It was busy as expected at this time during the race. Did ok, did a full clothes change etc, sun screen etc. I just need to move faster.
Bike
  • 6h 21m 9s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Not sure what happened on bike, went out as planned and think I overconsuming my concentrated mix, which led me to slow intake as my stomach eased out. Maybe next year not hit the mix until 30 min in? Overall ride was good, but need to stay concentrated. Almost wrecked twice, neither one my fault, but none the less a wreck would make for a bad day. Fisrt instance on a turn the corner marshall was instructing two ladies with a cooler when to cross the street. Can't remember his exact words, but I think he said go ahead and cross.........after this next bike, they began to cross immediatley when he said cross, cooler brushed my legs arm. Next instance was in a water stop of course. I was behind a hand cyclist and gaining on him. It was late in the ride and I was going to stop, well not stop but slow and get a bottle. I wanted to do the right thing here. I was going faster than the hand cyclist, but didn't want to mess him up in the water exchange, so I slowed to his speed and had a gap so we could have a nice exchange, well at the last second another bike came around me, cut me off at like a 30 degree angle and immediatley came to a complete stop. Other than that good ride or so I thought.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate properly because of what is to come.
Transition 2
  • 05m 16s
Comments:

And here is goes, bam. Jump off the bike hit the ground running(is that a pun?) and my feet are instantly numb?? Ok rather than run to my bag, hobble. I usually shine at transitions, they are my best event and I'm here not sure whats up. Go into T2 tent. Start getting dressed and get dizzy. So I sit a minute to let it settle, it doesn't. So I do my full clothes change and get up and slowly get moving.
Run
  • 6h 08m 22s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 14m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Before I get started, not sure my ranking are my actual run/bike ranking, I think thats just where I was in the race. So probably worse lol. Run, well what can I say, with being numb dizzy, the first two miles felt like the slowest two miles of my life and I almost threw in the towel, but I had to keep going, that was the plan at least. I broke at about mile 14ish, literally knee pain, extreme, ohh its was fine when I walked, but instantly spike back in when I would attempt to run, I attempt this run/walk for the next few miles until I realized it was just going to be a very long walk. I go ahead in throw in some run info from my watch.

first 1:00:07 4.98 miles 12:04 mile 137/165/181 hr
1:07:55 5.03 miles 13:30 mile 141/159/180hr
1:07:17 4.98 miles 13:30 mile 142/159/189hr
1:19:37 5.07 miles 15:43mile 128/145/163hr the walk has started
1:15:18 5.06 miles 14:53mile 133/144/159hr
0:18:29 1.22 miles 15:12mile 131/143/170hr

So there you have it, ok up to about mile 15. I know that spped is slow for most anyone who reads this report, but for fat ol' me. I don't run much.
What would you do differently?:

Train
Post race
Warm down:

The usual, bad tasting food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:
