Swim
Comments: For those not in the know..... At American Triple T, race 3, the format is Bike, Swim, Run. So this swim comes after an Olympic (plus) bike ride. In T2 you have to get out of your cycle stuff and in to your wetsuit and then in to the water for a swim. Of course you are worn out from the two races already completed and the bike. Everyone warns about the infamous hamstring cramps that can happen on this swim and I felt the beginnings of them at one point starting the second lap. I wore my Zoot wetsuit because it is a tiny bit big and I thought it would be easier to get on. I loved this suit for the two years that I used it as my wetsuit but it is clear that it is way too big with a lot of water intrusion at the neck. It is also much less flexible than my new Aquaman so it is a little more tiring. This felt like the longest, hardest swim of the weekend. What would you do differently?: Done with this wetsuit. Otherwise this went as well as could be expected. Transition 1
Comments: This is the bike to Swim transition and involves putting on a wetsuit. It is the exact same rime as T1 in the morning which involved getting out of a wetsuit and in to warm clothes. What would you do differently?: nothing. Maybe go with a different wetsuit but it wasn't a bad decision for T1 performance. Bike
Comments: A time trial start, two at a time. This race started with the bike. This was 25.8 miles, not 24.9. It was another hard but beautiful ride. I went with arm warmers, gloves, jersey for this. Slightly cold but not too bad. Held up ok for this point in the weekend. Transition 2
Comments: This is getting out of the wetsuit and in to running clothes in this crazy race. Went just fine. Run
Comments: This was the hardest run of the weekend. Not totally happy with my pace but I was in a bit of a dark place for some of this run. What would you do differently?: Mentally HTFU. Overall ok. Still one more tough race left. Don't want to blow it all at this point. Post race
Warm down: massage. food. socialize. I had been warned not to hang out too long and that sleep would be vitally important to survival so I high tailed it out of there pretty early. Of interest, I usually race with caffeinated fluids but I chose not to for this race because I wanted to be able to get to sleep quickly. It worked well as I was asleep by 9:15. Event comments: This is really turning in to a very cool, very fun weekend. Can't say enough about how well organized this race is. Really top notch and one of the best overally race experiences I have ever had. Last updated: 2014-06-10 12:00 AM

Slept in the back of the car at the race site after race two but before race three. With an hour to race time, woke up, got dressed. Got ready and rode the bike down to transition. The feel of the race at this point was a lot less frenetic than the first two races. Weariness was starting to show up for all of us.
Not much.
