Swim
Comments: The swim was beautiful. It was a great start to the morning and great sighting and very calm water. It was a self-seeding start like IMLP. It was an average swim for me but I sighted well. The breathing may have been a little tough due to the altitude. What would you do differently?: Try to draft better. Keep a consistent and longer stroke. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit peelers helped. T1 was good up until I walked through mud with my cleats and mud got stuck to the bottom of my left cleat which made it impossible to clip in. I then had to try to kick/scrape it off but it didn't work. My foot was then in a weird position. I did stop once to scrape it but it was still creaky and dry and just not clipped in right. Also, used restroom. What would you do differently?: Not step in mud or have sneakers to run through transition to the bike and then put my shoes on! Make sure you have sunscreen everywhere. Bike
Comments: Course was more difficult than I thought, and I did not have my bike legs to start the course. It started with the left pedal/mud situation and progressively got worse. Slow inclines at the start for miles drained me, the turnaround uphill section was very hard between miles 10-20 and the Sun was brutal and there was absolutely no relief from it. Started to get heat stroke around miles 80-90 and didn't know how to recover from there. Power was drying out and just wanted to be off the bike. Was dizzy at times. What would you do differently?: I don't know Transition 2
Comments: Walked bike through a long transition. Sat in transition for a while to collect myself, then used restroom and got sunscreen. Was not looking forward to the run after feeling ill on the bike. What would you do differently?: Make sure you have sunscreen everywhere. Run
Comments: Suffering from heat / sun stroke made it very difficult to run. HR and BP was through the roof and did not wan to take a chance of not making it to the finish line so slowed down to walking pace a little before 1/2 way through the run. Took a long long time to finish the run course (almost out there as long as on the bike course). Concrete was no help on the legs and feet. My feet were killing me too. I had to swallow my pride and complete it but I made it! What would you do differently?: Protect myself from the sun. try to run on the trail section more. Keep the run pace up because walking that long hurt my foot just as much. Post race
Warm down: Med Tent immediately afterwards with ice packs on my head. BP was very high. Post-race massage on legs in Med Tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: HR was very high. Heat /Sun Stroke or poisoning. Event comments: Sometimes you are the SHIT, sometimes you are the STAIN! Last updated: 2014-08-05 12:00 AM
