Event warmup:

stretches & swim warmup
Swim
  • 16m 16s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

I didn't realize until after the swim was complete what the announcer was referring to relative to the orange buoys only being for siting. Once I completed the course and made the mistake of rounding one of the buoys I realized I added unnecessary time to the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to make sure I really understand the course better and if possible swim the course beforehand.
Transition 1
  • 03m 20s
Comments:

The distance to transition from the water was extended due to safety and flow concerns from last year's course. This made the course better, but distance quite a bit longer. I don't think I could have had a better transition time due to difficulties with running in a wet suit.
Bike
  • 40m 16s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 18.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Issues with changing my gears. I need to have this checked out since it seems to be missing my mid-section probably due to me not changing my tires out properly and realigning the chain. I wish I had ZIP wheels :).
What would you do differently?:

Need more work on the hills and speed work in general
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Run
  • 24m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Really struggled to get my breathing under control during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Need more speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched and walked the one mile back to the hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Biorhythms off and never felt "strong" during the race. Going to the conference the week prior in Chicago fatigued my body and did not allow for proper training and rest.

Event comments:

Despite my poor performance this race was awesome to participate in. There were so many high caliber racers and they hosted a super-sprint for the pro/semi-pro athletes the day prior which was really exciting to watch. It was really a well organized race with lots of great swag as well.
