Swim
Comments: Was a great morning for a swim. A bit cool and a bit of cloud cover so the sun wasn't too bad. Started up front to the far right. Got bounced around a bit but stayed outside the majority of the traffic. Once I found some open water, I settled into a nice rhythm and cruised along. Was tight on the first turn buoy and got swept up into the mess and got boxed in for a bit after wards. but again once I found good water I got back into my rhythm and felt good. Second turn was on the buoy again actually a bit inside so had to swim backup and around and into a ton of arms and feet. Got inside of the mess coming off the buoy and swam well back to the beach. Fairly good swim, stayed within myself and wasn't too slow. What would you do differently?: Should have started a bit more to the left as I tend to drift to the right, put me well inside and made the turns way too tight which kills momentum, Rather go a bit wide and not have to stop with the log jam. 22/71 AG and 186/598 OA. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly straight forward transition. The folks doing the Revolution had rack up at the very front of transition which results in a longer run barefoot on the concrete. Other than that a nice deliberate transition. Trouble getting my Powerbar Perfromance Energy Blend in that small pocket on the PI kit. What would you do differently?: Not much. Practice loading my nutrition into my kit. stayed in 22nd in my AG but went from 186th to 202nd OA. Bike
Comments: I love this bike course. Got going a bit slowly as I dried off and warmed up as the air was still cooler than the water at 7:30 am. Got into a rhythm going around the back of the lake and then the big downhill stretch out of the lake quassy area. Was having more people than normal pass me on the flats which surprised me although I was still taking most of them back on the hills. When we hit the steep hill at mile 11-12, I figured out why. When to shift to the small ring for the hill and I was already there. My split pace confirms that. I was really ticked off at myself and pushed it hard once I got back to the big ring. Second time I've done that. Hammered the hills coming back to the Lake and around the Lake and passed a good number of my teammates from and earlier wave. Good ride but obviously it come have been a lot better. What would you do differently?: Look at what ring my front chain in sitting on as I leave transition, The shift was down the whole time and it never registered. Still I went from 22nd to 16th and 202nd to 114th OA. 2nd fastest split for me only trailing last year by about 40 seconds. Transition 2
Comments: Nice smooth transition. Had some issues dismounting and getting off my bike but after that it was a quick rack shoe change helmet off and grabbed a drink from my bottle and grabbed my number and went. What would you do differently?: Work on dismounts. I come to a complete halt lose all forward progress, worth a few seconds to practice a better dismount. Run
Comments: Started out and my legs felt very jelloy. Just tried to stay smmoth the first mile until my legs came in. Had a girl (top 3 OA) and a guy in my AG pass. Once my legs came in I tried to catch back up. Lost 2 spots in my AG the first two miles but I stayed strong and worked the hills and the downhills to get 2 spots back. Re-caught the girl from mile 1 (two more ladies passed us both by them) Worked mile 5 hard and felt like I was moving for once and ran the final hill well, again picking up several spots on the road. Then down to the finish, I managed to hold my place but just couldn't catch the guy in my AG from mile 1 but I stuck with him. What would you do differently?: More brick to get my legs to come in faster maybe. I thought I ran well as I crushed last year's time and was a course PR by 15 seconds, so I can't complain. Got done before it got too hot so all is well. 16th to 18th to 16th in my AG and 114th to 119th OA. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal and ice towel and drank up. THought about an Ice bath but opted against it since I didn't want to drive back in a soaked tri suit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Starting the bike and going 12 miles in the small ring. But I still had a solid race and a course PR by 2:25 and later found out it was a USAT score of 80.597 my highest score ever (PR). So it was a really good effort. Especially knowing I had another race the next morning. Event comments: Day 1 of the Revolution. Love this race and love the atmosphere. Expo was hoping and the food was good. Drove up on Friday after doing status and tying up a few loose ends at work. Got on the road by 10:00 and had a fairly uneventful ride up I-84. Hit the expo checked in an got my bike racked then headed back to Danbury to get dinner and hit the hotel. Got my race tats on and even the Age stuck. Hit the sack early. Got up at 4:45 and headed out to the race. Got set up in transition fairly easily and had a lot of extra time to walk around and talk to Chris and Stephanie and the Les Chicken dude and the other crazies doing the Revolution with me. Wore my 2013 kit for the Olympic. Got tri-slided up and put my wetsuit on and went for a practice swim.
Got in in time for a light practice swim out to the first buoy and back. Was in the 3rd wave so had plenty of time to wait.
