Swim
Comments: Warm, warm swim. This water felt like a bathtub. Started off hard, then after the first 300, or so, meters, backed off the pace a little. Concentrated on trying to draft off anyone and swimming straight. Sighting was really good and I think I swam fairly in line with the buoys. I honestly thought I had swam better and was a little surprised that I was in the 29:xx range when I got out of the water. What would you do differently?: I took two minutes off last year's swim, so not much. I just need to spend more than 2 sessions a week in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: I don't know why T1 was so much longer this year. What would you do differently?: Overall, I had pretty decent transition times. Bike
Comments: Windy, hot, and humid out today. I was dripping sweat like crazy and worried that I was pushing the bike too hard. After mile 10, I had to dial it back a little b/c of the wind. At that time, I came up on a trio of cyclists that were drafting legally. I surged, made the pass, then paid for it a few mins later. I felt gassed. Dialed it back down, the trio passed me again, and i just settled in behind them. At that time, a race official passed us in a motorcycle. I was probably around 10 bike lengths back, so I wasn't nervous about a drafting violationl, but he stayed with us for a short time. No drafting here, buddy! We're doing this by the rules! Finished up the bike, making sure to push all the sections where I didn't last year. I was able to take 1.5 mins off of last year's time on a tougher (wind) course. What would you do differently?: I think I started off too hard. Back it off, just a tiny bit, and maybe push it harder in the middle of the race. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition, but I ran and could not find the exit! ha! Run
Comments: White Bake. Yuck. Started off knowing I would not make my goal of sub 38. I was just too hot. I settled in behind an Open female that was running 6 min/mi and stayed with her for the first mile, but I got too hot and wilted in the heat. Trudged along and tried to drink and pour cold water on my head. Disappointed in a big way, but I was just not a runner today. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had a few cold drinks, and then sat down. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. Event comments: We love this race. White lake is just a good location and the family can bathe in the lake while you race. Third year in a row and will prob continue to race here. Last updated: 2014-09-07 12:00 AM
