Pre-race routine:

Pack the car and woke up my cheering section so that I can leave on time to the park. It WAS a LONG drive to the race site. Arrive less than 15 minutes to check in and warm up. Did I mentioned it was a long drive? Did not sleep well at all.
Event warmup:

Did not attempt a proper warmup. Just have time to take a number one break and set up transition area before the start of the race. Had a back feeling about the race. For some reason I thought I will have a flat tire today. Oh well..... the race started promptly at 7:30am.
Run
  • 21m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

My first mile was too fast -- sub 6 min mile. I decided to slow down as the day is still long. Ran my second mile on my regular pace. Picked up my last mile. It was a comfortable run. I think this is my best 5k time this season. I need to double check.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Arrive earlier to do warm ups....
Transition 1
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

It was fine. The transition area is in a "L" shape ... very small transition area. I was at the back of the area therefore I had to run to the mounting area....
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Bike

Comments:

I thought I did very well in my ride. I was comfortable riding the distant. This was my first ride for almost 2 weeks. I was surprised I did well. I was passed by a group of 10 riders on mile 10 -- they were all drafting!!..for miles....not fair! I started to bonk at mile 18 -- but I stuck it out till the end. I was so happy to complete the ride. I finish the course in good time at least by 5 minutes compared to practice rides.
What would you do differently?:

Train more before the race??....
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

I think my left calf was beginning to cramp... from running fast on my clits.... slowed down and had a sip of cool water in the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Comments:

This was a nightmare. I was so happy to be doing well so far until I hit the first few meters of the run course -- I felt a twist on my right knee and everything locked up. I knew then I am in deep trouble. I remained calm and jogged through the path and hope for the best. Whien I was on the road, my knee refuse to move. I had to walk a few times on the first 2 miles to adjust and massage my right knee. I almost quit and called it a day. But I decided to finish the race. I was angry with myself as many many many many runners were passing me. Instead of finsihing this 10k under 46 minutes, I have to settle for a slower time or just completing the race. I kept igmoring the hideously painful knee. I basically limped the entire 10k. As I was approaching mile 4, my left leg was taking the toll and started to cramp up, right leg was completely gone. I kept smilling and cursing and hope to see the finish line under 2hours 30 minutes. This was the most painful and dissappointing run of my life.
What would you do differently?:

Try to be careful while running on a gravel path. And avoid bad luck?....
Post race
Warm down:

A volunteer asked me if I was ok..I told her I need to walk to the medic for ice. Got a medic attention and wrapped my right knee with ice pack. Walk off my pain in a dissappointing finish. Pack my gears and pack up my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My twisted right knee. I was in pace for a PR -- but I guess it was not meant to be. Better luck next time.

Event comments:

I had high hopes that I will complete this race with a PR. I was on track for the first 2 leg of the race but my bad turn of event prevented me to realize my goals. I am very hard on myself and could not forgive myself for not taking good care of my last run. I guess it was meant to be -- a lesson learned. After thought -- I am proud of my 5k and my bike time. I had a blast. I wish I could run my pace on the 10k. In terms of endurance, I had plenty. Just lady luck was not on my side. I guess my bad feelings about flat tired came through -- LOL -- damn knee. I hope i did not damage it. I will have to see if it heal up in 2 days. It still hurts... and my ego is bruised. 2 more race to put in my PR. Gotta long this!! By the by, thank you for those who cheered me on .... I surely needed it...Cheers!

Note: Overall rank including triathlon is 149/280. Small turnout :(
