Run
Comments: I was worried going in about a heel pain I had a few weeks prior that seemed to be still present to a small degree a few days before the marathon and also a tight hamstring on my left leg. But, my body held up, I felt great and not only placed first in my age group but met my goal of running a Boston Marathon qualifying time. My goal for a BQ was 4:25 for my age and I ran under that. My splits were fairly even with someone faster in the first few miles and somewhat slower in the last two, which is exactly what I expected. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Just walked a little and tried to stretch some and replace some calories. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. I ran the best race I feel that I could have. I might have run a little faster had the course been less crowded. Starting the marathon with the half-marathon, which had thousands of entrants, made for crowding in most of the streets. Event comments: I would highly recommend this race. It was very well organized, the crowds were supportive the entire course (except on highway), and the after party was fun. Woke up in the middle of the night with a terrible sore throat and tossed and turned the rest of the night. Got up a few hours before the marathon and didn't feel too bad. Ate some breakfast and drank plenty of water and electrolyte/vitamin drink and headed to start an hour before the race. Weather was cold (for me) at 42 degrees so I layered up and held on to my jacket as long as I could. I wore a throw away t-shirt at the start line and threw it away at the gun.
The temp was lower 40's at start but at finish was mid-60"s. Perfect for me.
Great atmosphere and really just walked and stretched a little.
