Swim
Comments: The swim was fine. I was not interested in drafting anyone and taking a hit to my chin, so I just plowed through. Maybe plowed wasn't the correct term. I didn't hit anyone, I just tried to go. I had a friend who is terrified of the swim. During the first two hundred meters, I stopped twice to yell out to her and see if she was alright. After she flipped over on her back, I took off and didn't stop until I felt dirt. It was a tough swim due to the temperature of the water. What would you do differently?: Swim just a smidge harder... Transition 1
Comments: Quite possibly the worst transisiton time ever. I had to put my shoes on, with socks, get on my gloves, get my glasses on, etc. What would you do differently?: practice, practice, practice... Bike
Comments: I was careful to hold back on the bike, as I was sore in my upper right arm, and was not interested in having another accident. In all honesty, some parts of the course scared me, the turns were very sharp. I know that this is just due to the accident last week, but I wanted to do much better on the bike this race. What would you do differently?: Well, I don't know if I would have done much differently, all things considered. I was dissappointed in my speed in one respect, but I kept reminding myself that this was the race to prove that injuries and fear were not a reason to quit. Transition 2
Comments: Well, because I had taken off my clipless pedals, and was using toe clips, it was easy. Rack the bike, grab the hat and race belt & GO!! What would you do differently?: practice Run
Comments: Great day, it was hot. I also did not do well slowing into my standard pace/breathing until almost a mile, hence, I was very ineffcient. I was experiencing significant pain in my shoulder and upper arm by this time, so I started finding folks to run with for a distraction. By mile two, I was hurting. I knew that chatting on the course was not going to work anymore, so I had to dig down and go ( sounds so dramatic- how silly!) This kid was offering cups of ice at the last aid station just to be a smartass, but I took it and threw it on my head. Then, I took off. The last mile actually felt good, and I got smoked at the last minute by someone else. I tried to catch her, but I just couldn't (wimpy? probably) What would you do differently?: I would have tried to drink more on the bike to hydrate for the run. I would like to pay more attention to my overall form as soon as I hit the run. Post race
Warm down: Kissed the kids, walked a little, drank some Gatorade What limited your ability to perform faster: Last weeks' accident. Heat on the run was bad Event comments: Great race, with friendly volunteers. Director did great job! Last updated: 2006-08-01 12:00 AM

Jumped in the water and swam.
