Pre-race routine:

Got up a five. Felt like I had slept for about 5 minutes. We had been at a family party (my mom's 70th the day before) and it was exhausting. Was hoping to wake up and not feel the fatique of the 85 mile bike ride from hell and the half mary I had already done this week.
Event warmup:

No real warm up to speak of. It was a long process getting into the parking areas on Sandy Hook. Then had to get through a security checkpoint to get into the transition area. The swim and transition were both located on US Coast Guard grounds so security was tight in a chaotic and unorganized sort of way. Had about 10 min to set up transition. Inserted my bike between two newbies on the rack who had set up house keeping together. Reminded them that we all needed a space and that it was a transition area, not the living room.
Swim
  • 11m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went well enough and I am pleased with the effort.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I need to work on sighting better and just overall work on better technique and speed.
Transition 1
  • 03m 46s
Comments:

I really need to work on these transition times. I should be faster. T1 really hurts my overall time.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Just need to have it more together I guess. Need to think more quickly. Maybe forget the socks for these sprint races. Or get shoes that only have one set of straps instead of the 3 sets i currently have.
Bike
  • 31m 31s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.94 mile/hr
Comments:

A nice fast, fun ride with a couple of competive gals to make it interesting. Could have been faster with fresher set of legs.
What would you do differently?:

Not do an 85 mile bike ride up all the biggest freakin' hills in the state 4 days before a race : ).
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Again, a faster transition would be good, but this wasnt too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really—just move it!!
Run
  • 26m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were really feeling fatiqued for this run. Had I been fresher, I could have done much better. Was really feeling the weeks activities right from the get go. I tried to settle in and find a happy place to glide through. My legs were tired and my breathing felt labored ( a sure sign of fatique). I got through it though with just a good steady slowish pace. Didnt walk at all and managed a strong finish.
What would you do differently?:

Take it easier the week before the race : ).
Post race
Warm down:

Met my TeamTrainingNE peops at the finish. So great to see them right there and so great to be there with them for this race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too much this past week. Amazing that I was able to do as well as I did. Can't help but wonder how I might have done had I been fresher. This course was made for setting PRs.

Event comments:

You have to love the Danskin races. I love seeing women triumph at these races and their families there supporting them. Its all about love and support. Good stuff : )

Okay the swim went well considering I tried to do a half mile swim on friday and almost drowned as I was too tired and the water was cold.
Suit:
Course: The course was a rectangle out and back. Water was chilly at first, but actually quite pleasant once I started working. I needed to get into the swim and regain my confidence after a really bad and scary swim on Friday. Got my confidence back quickly and worked my way through it pretty well. Wish I was faster, but I can work on that over the winter I guess.

The bike was fun. I passed almost everyone in my sights. Got into a bit of a back and forth with one gal who really pushed me and made it fun. Was little slow getting out and coming in due to a narrow course and some crappy surface conditions, but once out on the main drag, it was fast and flat. Had the wind at my back on the way out and a very minor headwind on the way in.
Wind: Little
Course: Course was out and back. Had to make a hairpin turn midway which proved to be tricky for some participants. A nasty wipe out behind me. Flat as a pancake though and I was wishing I had a tri bike so I could really rip it up. Did the whole ride in the big ring. Felt some fatique from the past weeks activities in my legs, but tried to work through it.
