Swim
Comments: I sucked. I was comfortable and relaxed. Absolutely no anxiety. Someone should have reminded me to PICK UP THE PACE. What would you do differently?: Uhhh maybe exert myself a little. Blue tinted goggles in low light and fog suck. Note to self...get a pair of clear and a pair of dark tinted and decide at race time which to wear. As if having poor vision wasn't enough, you don't have to compound the problem with goggles that blind you even moreso. I honestly seen two buoys the entire swim. Used safety boats to guide on. Wonder now if judges could see us. Transition 1
Comments: Lot of sand and cut grass so I took a few seconds to wipe the dogs off a little. Bike
Comments: Bike computer died at start. Doesn't sound like a big deal but it is when you're trying to salvage a spot or two and have no clue as to distance or average that you're doing. What would you do differently?: Checked my bike more carefully. Transition 2
Comments: Normal for me. Got a drink of water before leaving on run. Run
Comments: Was cramping from the get go. Took some enduralytes and that helped. Wore my fuel belt with some power drink and that helped also. Quads and calfs cramped because of being unaccustomed to the hilly bike ride. What would you do differently?: Hydrate more on the bike and take more enduralytes. Lose 20 lbs. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and rubbed some ice on my head. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight. Event comments: First race where I had some family members attend. Wife, son, sil, and neice jockstrapped for me and they had a blast and I was really inspired by their cheering and taunts. Not that it showed in my overall time or anything, but it was cool to hear my neice shouting "Go Uncle Russell" and the other three shouting or doing the "woof woof woof" thing. You know what....I think I kinda liked having them there even if I was nearly DFL. btw ran this race with a "failed 2XU trisuit. Lycra separated at the buttcrack. Was only noticeable when I bent over. I was picking up my gear when Michelle announces that I have "cleavage...butt cleavage". I knocked her out. Last updated: 2006-08-08 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep well so got up at 0430 and read two newspapers. Went down to the continental breakfast at 0530. Had a bagel and some coffee. Woke up Chris and he rode with me out to the race site so he could bring the car back for everyone else.
Set up transition. Socialized some and then headed down to the lake for a swim. Air temp was about 65 and water temp was 84. Foggy, very foggy.
