![]() Swim
Comments: Short Swim. Stroke pace felt good. Turns and lane changes not that good. I went to shallow and caught up on ropes a couple times. Didn't turn wide enough once and ran into an oncoming swimmer. Missed turn timing. What would you do differently?: Lane turns today were terrible. Need to spend more time on getting good at those again.. Misjudeged a few things. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: This was actually T1 -- Reverse order Tri -- so I simply had to change shoes. Since I'd pushed hard on the run, I was MUCH slower in this transition than I needed to be. I was trying hard to get my breathing under control. Also had a bit of a challenge getting my bike shoes on easily, What would you do differently?: Manage pace on inbound run better. ![]() Bike
Comments: Good Course. Only complaint is that it was open course so had to observe traffic signals, but on whole was really good. I felt good about the pace I held and I did beat my goal time by 1.6 MPH What would you do differently?: Shift better on startup after having to stop for traffic signal ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Transition was simple -- drop shoes -- grab goggles and to. Didn't take long for that but there was about a 100-150 yard dash from transition area to the pool for the swim which slowed time down.. What would you do differently?: Been so long since I did a race, that I forgot some of the good principles of transition. Would better organize my transition area. ![]() Run
Comments: Run was the portion I was most concerned about today, since I've not been running as well as I've run in the past. I went out at what I thought was a comfortable pace, and it was, but I was probably pushing a little as HR stayed pretty high. Slowed way down last mile, -- partially because I had been pushing hard and partially because I had to run on grass the last half mile. What would you do differently?: Manage pace a bit better. Control the urge to go to fast ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walk it off -- grab some goodies -- went to massage tent and had calves worked on. Much further and I'm sure I'd have cramped up in them badly. As it was they were very tight. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. I've not run a tri since summer of 2008. Pretty sad really. But this race gave me confidence that I can be a strong competitor again, just have to commit myself to it. Event comments: This is a very low key race, reverse order, and is a fund raiser for a church Boy Scout Troop. I went in with this understanding. Overall this was the perfect race for me to get back into the grove again. The event was well organized, post activities were appropriate, and everyone was having fun. This is an excellent race for a first triathlon event. I had a great race. Goal was 1:20 and I came in at 1:14:50. I really feel good about that. Built my confidence a lot. I'm anxious to race again! Arrived Fountain Valley last night about 10 pm - Checked into hotel and slept fairly well.
Got up about 5 am to get dressed and headed to the venue. Got there about 6am. Did Packet pick-up, and then set up transition area. Met up with Daniel and his brother for the start.
Basically just a short lap around the school track to loosen the legs
