Swim
Comments: very nieve going into this, very poor training in retrospect. Was somewhat intimidated by the actual visualization of the distance at the race. Wet suits seem to have been worn by most everyone, the water temp was such that they had to wait just before the start to allow them. That said, I still feel I should be able to do a mile swim in 30' without a suit. (OK, not now, but that is my goal) What would you do differently?: See above Transition 1
Comments: put socks and shoes on before jumping on bike, we got to pedal out of T1 saved time not having a wet suit to take off HA! Towel dried body and slipped bike/run jersey on, took a shot of GU and a slug of water, not really concearned with shaving seconds off T1, rather taking enough time to catch breath and ensure comfort on bike. What would you do differently?: who knows Bike
Comments: I felt like I put forth a strong effort, without sacrificing my legs for the run. The run was hard enough, that I obviously didn't leave anything on the table. In retrospect, looking at how my performance compared to others, I can tell that I don't train at their level, plus my bike, which I still consider a big step up for me, still pales compared to the top notch equipment riden by most riders. What would you do differently?: For this race, really nothing. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Brick is a perfect description for how your legs feel starting the run. Had a very high HR and hard breathing for the 1st mile. Felt like I was running at 9:00+ pace, fortunatly that wasn't the case. Had to work out a side stich during mile 3, but 4,5 and 6 were quite enjoyable and in the low 7's What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: nothing What limited your ability to perform faster: training Event comments: nice "down to earth" experience for a runner, who thinking that by adding a little biking and swimming cross training to his running training would make him a top triathlete. There is more that goes into this event than just showing up. I left the event excited that there is alot of upside potential for me on the table. Last updated: 2006-08-13 12:00 AM
