Swim
Comments: This was my best swim of this season. I did not panic!! So proud of myself. I managed to shave off 3 minutes in the swim. Joy. Alas, I have to keep improving my freestle. I yet elected not to swim freestyle. Breaststroke all the way. My breathing was excellent. Navigation was good too. I started at the back of the wave pack, far left. Somehow, I swam to the right of the buoys. No extra energy was wasted here. My mind and body was working as one. What would you do differently?: Nothing-- only continue to be loose and relax. Get freestyle into shape for next year. Transition 1
Comments: slow transition -- this was my 3rd tri this season .. kinda rusty.. but all is well. .... also could not locate my bike... LOL...doh! The bike was on the last bike rack and yet I could not find it.. hello?? What would you do differently?: faster! Bike
Comments: My second time biking after my injury during Russell State Park. I was happy with my performance -- no complains even though I thought I was not moving fast enough. There were many fast bikers! I almost fell and get some road burns during my first major turn. I overestimated the turn and brake for it to readjust the turn -- my back wheels skidded and almost crashed. Thank goodness for good body balance! That was my wake up call. I was cautious and wide awake after that incident. I really enjoy this course. The rolling hills reminded me of Silky Sheets and I had a blast. I really hate flat course. So this was fun. What would you do differently?: Keep training ... my bike is the most improved area. Transition 2
Comments: Comtemplated about taking some Cliff shots but I decided to rush out of the transition area instead. I guess I felt good enough without taking any energy suppliments. What would you do differently?: Nothing.... Run
Comments: I was a little apprehensive about the run since my knee injury. I did not expect much from this race since I have not completed 2 mile of running without knee pain. My confidence shot up as I slowly pace myself and felt no pain from my knee. As I saw my fellow buds, I increased my pace. Slowly but surely I cross the finish line. I must admire, I was tired as I ran the last hill to the finish line. I should sprint faster but, I was satisfied with my day's work. Crossing the line was a real joy. What would you do differently?: nothing .. keep training, do more speed intervals and get stronger. Post race
Warm down: Iced my knees -- a lesson learned from last race. Imust take good care of my knees as I love to run. Catch up with my buds and analysed the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. Swimming sucks! 2. Knee not 100% 3. Did I mention swimming sucks.... Event comments: Finishing this race and the tri the park series was trully a personal accomplishment -- 3 tris and 2 du. I think I had so much fun in this one because I needed to prove to myself that I can complete a challenge when faced with injuries. My state of mind was clam as it could be in all races so far. Hey, getting sleep before the race is a GOOD thing. I make sure i have some sleeping pills on hand and use it for future pre-race ritual. I can NEVER rest the night beofre the race which results in poor race judgements and weak race energy -- all produces nervous mental state. I attribute my smooth swim to my rested mind. So, peeps -- make sure you get some rest the night before the race!!! It makes a HUGE difference. This is the first time my overall time was good enough to beat 2 of my buddy's time -- and they are great triathletes. So that was a bonus and a bragging right for the moment. LOL.. This is surely an incentive to train harder and improve for next season. One more race next weekend and I shall rest and think of next year's race. Cheers everyone -- keep tri'ing, peeps! The day before, try to eat more carbs but hardly have time to load up for this race. Took half of Ambien to force me to sleep. Woke up after 6 hours of rest but it was still 11pm. Drove out to Waffle House for some mid night snack. Watched TV and took an hour and a half nap. Woke up..have some coffee..get dressed, pack the car, force my cheering section into my car (while all moaning bloody mary....LOL).. Spend 90 mins driving to the park.Unload the car and had to walk to the tranisiton area -- parked across the lake.. a long walk indeed.
Frantically set up in the transition area. Very packed area. I had to ask a few folks to give me some room for my bike. Realized that my bike number tore off during the drive to the park ... note to self and all .. DON'T adhere the bike number/tag at home!! I had to report it to the referee so that I won't be penalized. Used the facilties; did a quick short jog; walk to the lake, tested the water which is warmer that the air surrounding us. Stood around the start line until the race begins.
