Swim Bike Run Northwest

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 59m 6s
Overall Rank = 238/400
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 10/21
Pre-race routine:

Got up before the butt crack of dawn and drove there, eating my bagels along the way. This race was a completely different course in a completely different location than the 2014 race.
Event warmup:

Set up transition and walked to the swim start.
Swim
  • 19m 33s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Gender: 90/207. The swim start was a little odd. People held back, rather than start at the start line, so I was in front of everyone else, which is definitely where I do NOT want to be. Once the horn sounded, everyone started swimming over the top of me, and I had a bit of an anxiety issue. I rolled over on my back for about 15 seconds to catch my breath and regroup, and then the rest of the swim was fine.
What would you do differently?:

I think I need more practice with the mass starts.
Transition 1
  • 04m 8s
Comments:

The transition area was set up odd. They had the swim in, bike in/out, and run out all at the east end of the transition area, so those of us placed at the west end of transition, had a lot longer distance to run than everyone else. This really added time to my transitions, which are usually very, very fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did the best I could with what I had.
Bike
  • 58m 29s
  • 15.7 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went well. It shifts great now that Wes has fixed it. This course has two hills, both of which slowed me down a bit. Rode in aero quite a bit.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get faster and stronger on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

The bike ride was pretty strenuous, so I was a little slow running with my bike.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get stronger on the bike.
Run
  • 35m 51s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 11m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pretty tired from the hills on the bike, so I wasn't able to run as fast as I would have liked.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to get stronger and faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Hit the food tent and cleaned it out, then joined the rest of the TB members and waited for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to be stronger and faster.

Event comments:

This was a good race. Lots of families. A couple of kids' teams placed well, which was cool. Lots of post-race food for everybody. Lots of prizes given out.
