Swim
Comments: Swim prediction was 5:15. That was a good time to put down. I rested on a couple of walls to wait for the guy in front of me. I think I could have done my prediction easily. Very poor visibility. Had to glide to the walls because my distance perception was poor in this water. Did a run jump. Dislodged my Seal mask/goggles, had to surface, tread water with feet only while I fixed my goggles. What would you do differently?: Sit down entry so I can push off without messing up goggles. Transition 1
Comments: I dont clip my shoes onto the bike beforehand. So I struggle with the ratchet-strap thingy. I would really like to invest in some Tri Bike Shoes with the no-tongue, giant entry with the singular velcro strap. I had trouble clipping my race belt (with hands behind my back). Took me three tries - I was trying to jam the two pieces together, but they weren't lined up. Next time I'll consider clipping it from the front where I can see what I'm doing. That way I won't have to turn the race number around for the bike. Bike
Comments: Overall, a difficult course to maintain any sort of rythym. Lots of rollers, several that I got out of the saddle. Wind out of south, I've had much worse, but it certainly didn't help. Part of the road was pretty dicey and required a lot of focus. Gatorade (orange) What would you do differently?: Need more leg strength in order to produce more power to get up the hills. Transition 2
Comments: Again, cycling shoes with the ratchet thingy is harder than it needs to be. Run
Comments: I was patient with the run so as not to overdo the first mile. My legs started to loosen up at mile 2 and I turned it up a notch. I saw the opportunity to go under 1:10:00. Post race
Warm down: I stood in the finishing area while my 2 kids ran up to me and mauled me with hugs. It is a very special feeling to have my children there to see me do my best. My wife (Sue) was there as well and I thank her always for her support! Talked to John JCAGG90. Thanks for supporting John. Heard him yelling for me at various points during the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Power on the bike. However, I did the best that I could. My race prediction was 1:11:00, I finished 1:09:59.3 Event comments: The past two years, the Kiwanis Club and Ironhead has produced a quality race. There were 4 types of breakfast burritos, pasta, smoothies, fruit, bagels and more at the finish. Last updated: 2006-08-28 12:00 AM

Woke up 4:30. Bagel and coffee. Threw the kids in the minivan at 5:00
Pulled out of the drive at 5:10 -- Even though the kids have done this routine 2 other times this summer, this day was going to be a long day for the kids (and for mom and dad)!
From West Allen, we took the backroads to Rockwall -- Country Club, Brown, Hwy 78, etc. It took 35 mins versus taking 75/190 last year (50 mins?)
Water and Banana Powerbar at 6:45
The Jack Weiss comedy routine at 7:00...dissappointed he didn't refer to any musicians/bands that we might have trained to that we cannot listen to during the race. Past races were: Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Bethoven, Led Zepelin, etc.
I jogged the grass portion of the run, because I remember it being a little confusing at first. Was glad I did.
