  • Comments: This, like my last tri, would be a perfect first-timers triathlon. For pretty much all the same reasons. Sprint distance, pool swim, fairly easy course, but just challenging enough to make it interesting. Organization was good and post meal food was excellent. Swim was indoor at a very nice aquatics center. Transition to bike was a little sketchy as you had to exit the aquatics center and go down some fairly steep concrete steps. I made it fine, but kept picturing somebody eating it on those steps. Transition area was a pretty crowded and cramped. Was in a huge empty parking lot so it seemed they could have given us more room. Not a big deal though. Bike course was good. Slightly hilly and largely in an unincorporated area with fairly decent concrete roads. There were a few larger cracks and small potholes to look out for, but nothing to be too concerned about as long as you were paying attention. For the most part, it was a fast bike course. The run course was a bit odd in

  • Comments: This was a well-done race, it's a shame it's going to be my last Ironhead race for at least a year. Jack's overall attitude towards his customers & epic pre-race meetings are a bit much for me at this point, and with the sheer number of other race directors out there I can find other races to do next year. I'll re-evaluate Ironhead in '11.

  • Comments: The swim is fine(it's about what you'd expect from a pool start), the bike was fine, but the run had issues. For starters, it wasn't marked well. Several of the top guys lost some time because they couldn't tell which way to go on the run back into the finish(this was fixed prior to me getting back there) due to a lack of signage. That, and there was a 90 degree turn right before the finish from pavement to grass that quite a few people ate it on. Those are the only things that kept this race from being great; otherwise it was your standard well-stocked, well-assisted Ironhead race. Jack delivers a consistent product, and that consistency is appreciated.

  • Comments: Wow. Hard to believe how far I have come in one year... I barely finished this race last year, even had to walk part of the run. This year, I finished strong, took 21 minutes off my previous time, and set a few pace PR's. All without socks!!

  • Comments: This is a great race for a mini sprint. It was my first race years ago and I will continue to do it as long as I race.

  • Comments: I beat last year's time by almost 15 minutes! Jack Weiss and Ironhead Productions run a great race. Lots of aid stations positioned just right, lots of volunteers. I'm glad I did it and I'm glad Derek and Shannon went along with my idea to do it too!

  • Comments: The route was the same as last year, as was the setup. They should really cordon off the beginning of the run better, as the announcer was constantly having to tell people to look out for runners. Other than that(and the out route through the swing sets), it's all pretty well designed.

  • Comments: For the money, this race is the absolute best one I've done - year after year (3 years in a row now). The locals donate this great food to support the Kiwanis Club, and Jack's crew do their typical clinic on organizing and execution. Lots of newbies and first timers reminded me how exciting and fun it is to be in this sport. Made me think back to my first race on a 35 pound Walmart mountain bike.

  • Comments: This is a very nice race. The food is the best food I've seen after a race. I liked the challenge of the hills on the bike course. The road was questionable in some points, but as long as you kept your eyes open it was fine. The run was interesting. Not horrible, but odd. They do need to find a new way to route the run out. For the past 2 years they have done it the same way and the spectators are constantly walking through the run out course. This results in the announcer yelling at people. If they would just clearly mark the course on both side with tape, the problem would be solved. It also doesn't help that they put the food behind the run out section with the restrooms and finish line on the opposite side. Oh, and I'd also like to say that I don't think spectators should be allowed to eat the athletes food until the race is DONE. I saw tons of spectators chowing down on food, and people who were finishing the race had nothing to eat. How rude. I know it's hard

  • Comments: Good race. I made the comment after the race that I would never race an Ironhead Productions race again because the RD was so strict. Looking back now, that was just sour grapes about the race number thing. Jack runs a tight ship and the results are well-run, organized races for racers of various abilities where very few people get injured. Can't complain about that. Thanks again to my 'Straps!!! You guys are the BEST!!!!!!!

  • Comments: Jack always does a great job, his events are very organized. I really had a mediocre race. My time doesn't come close to my sprint PR, which is fine, this bike was much more difficult. Before I found out I was second in my AG I told Marcy "I swam great, nothing bad happend on the bike and I had an Ok run. I can't be upset or complain. That being said, I guess it was a good race." Then Laurie and I got awards and the race wasn't small, so it became a great race!

  • Comments: Ironhead seems to be good at organizing races every time I go. The run course could have been a little less confusing at the start and the bike route could have been on a little better roads(there was one bad stretch for 3-4 miles, but otherwise it was fine) but the race was run well overall.
