Swim
Comments: They did a time trial start with athletes jumping off 2 piers. I thought I seeded myself at an estimated swim pace of 9:30, but was way further back than I thought. Didn't really matter because of the time trial start, but I ended up passing a lot of people. Got to the first buoy quickly and it was a little congested, but got around quickly and headed straight for shore. Passed a lot of people here as well. Got out of the water right around 9:00 and there was a long run to the mat which was right at transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Had a little issue getting into my shoes, but nothing major. What would you do differently?: Just need to work on this more. Bike
Comments: There is a pretty steep hill coming out of transition. It then goes down, but the first 1/2 mile is all climbing. Then the first 10 miles is a lot of rolling hills. Nothing hard like that first hill. You can get up everything pretty easy if you have good momentum. The last 8 miles is AWESOME. The road is newly repaved and flat. Super fast. Last turn is down the hill you came up (about half-way) and into transition What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Felt like I was faster than this, but don't know what took so long. Shoes went on pretty easy, but probably just need to practice this more often What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The run goes out of transition and up the same hill as the bike. After that big hill, you turn left right after the steep part and do a section of rolling hills. The first mile is gently rolling uphill, while the 2nd mile is generally rolling and downhill. At mile 2 you pass transition and do a 1/2 mile out 1/2 mile back along the Bay. This area is nice and flat and I was able to finally get into a good pace. Once you hit transition you run along the Bay on the brick path to the finish line. The course is actually slightly longer than 5k. What would you do differently?: Need to do more brick workouts. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, met up with Drew and cheered on some friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills Event comments: The parking situation sucks. You have to part about 3/4 mile away and walk to and from the transition. Then the awards were super unorganized this year. But other than that the race is great. Loved the course. Good community support. Lots of volunteers helping everywhere. Last updated: 2017-05-10 12:00 AM
